IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

Just the other day at work, there is a guy that works in the legal department that told me that he rented a Camaro SS over the weekend from Hertz. He said and I quote "The car looks great but it was the slowest piece of shit I have ever driven. My Accord was faster than it." I asked him if he test drove the V8 and he said that it was the SS model. I left kind of puzzled.

Really? Maybe I am not the only one?

At first when I was driving I was thinking that Hertz must have some sort of throttle limiter installed so people cant beat on it. Like I said it was peppier than my 02 V6 but I just thought on the drive home it was missing something. And it was, 2 cylinders

Yeah I don't know. I wasn't too close with the guy so I didn't try to elaborate. But he brought it up in the break room because I'm known as the "Camaro guy" in this company. Since he drives an Accord V6, I know that if it was the SS, his socks would be blown off.

Maybe mention this to him? As I said I am going to be bringing this up with Hertz since I believe anyone else who did get this car and ended up paying full price for a SS should get their rate refunded as well.

I wonder where they got that car. The only indication of it being an "SS" is the badging.

I travel constantly on business and have had a look at a lot of the Mustangs and Vettes and Camaros and have never seen anything like this. I would be curious if this is an anomaly or some sort of intentional fraud.
Read my mind...I mean, come on...a lawsuit? I guess we are in the land of lawyers.

At any rate, it sucks that this would happen...but I have to say it's very hard for me to imagine a company as large as Hertz would change the badging on a car. I am not calling and I'm glad you got your money refunded. It's just that this would have to be one VERY rare situation. Maybe a previous rental customer did it as a joke or something?

I know I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I doubt this is somehow Hertz' doing. I mean, we are talking about a company who shells out for special cars just to rent them...like the Z51 Corvette. I don't see them needing to swap badges to make a few bucks. Unless, of course, the local branch is hurting THAT bad...in which case I would expect them to close really soon.

Anyway, what a debacle. At least you got to drive a very nice car without having to pay full price for it in the end. Enjoy your vacation OP!

I doubt it was hertz as a company but the franchise owner may have been trying to pad his profits. I would report this to Herts main office, like I said I really doubt the company it's self was behind this.

Another possibility is that the car was made with the wrong badge on it.

Supposing that Hertz (or the local franchise) IS intentionally rebadging in order to take few extra bucks from a few suckers, it becomes an awkward issue. Who wants to look like a jerk, and who has the time to sue, over "a few dollars' discrepancy?" But, the big picture, sort of like in the movie, "Office Space," is that just a little money here and there, from a lot of people who probably won't notice, turns into a a large theft of money... but again, who wants to be the jerk who sues over his few measly dollars? So, what to do? I'D vote for going after them, but that's because I hate seeing people get screwed. It's not a "frivolous lawsuit," because the point of it is not the difference between renting a $39.95/ day car vs. renting a $44.95/ day car, and I want my $20 back... it's the BIG picture, of systematic theft of a LITTLE money, from LOTS of people. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . And, I wonder what Chevy would have to say... I've bought cars in the past, because when I rented one, it was such a great car, that I had to go buy one... but if renters get an "SS," and it fails to satisfy, potential buyers may look elsewhere... a test drive of an "SS" that, dang it, feels like a V6? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Bottom line, though, is that 98% of people are not enthusiasts, and that 98% includes judges and jury vegetables, and would not have the slightest idea why ANYBODY would care about the difference between any of the models of Camaro. They would not understand, nor would they care. To them, all cars are the same, and CERTAINLY, a Camaro is a Camaro is a Camaro... and I have very little doubt that any legal attempt at getting them to change their evil ways would result in nothing more than a LOT of people wondering why ANYBODY could possibly care.

Then I would be less pissed when they gave me my money back, end of story. Although you should pay a little more rent for any convertible period.

Then the disappointment since they have no SS, there will be no romping on a rented SS in Hawaii all week long, but it's not gonna ruin my vacation.

Here's a thought. Now that they are aware of the cars discrepancy, someone needs to go in a rent it with a hidden camera and see if they're still renting and charging for it as an SS. If so then that would pretty much bust them!

OK, so you found out that 'H' didn't rent you the car you asked for so you got a refund. Should also mention according to the red 'SS' badge, no RS package exist, as well as the std 19" rims, front fascia, smaller v6 exhaust, etc..

..time to move on, you're on vacation in Hawaii for crying out loud..should be happy you don't have to pay for premium gas $ out there.
