LONG ONE....copy and pasted from the build journal

December 2011 I was driving down the road in my 04 F150 and BOOM. My engine started rattling and falling apart. So, I had to get the engine replaced. While it was in the shop I decided it's time for a new truck. So I started looking at new f150s and thought to myself "why am I looking at fords when I just had an engine blow?". So I went to good ole Jake Sweeny Chevrolet to check out silverados and saw this black on black on black 2ss with the synergy package. I went over just to look at it and sure enough...here comes the salesman. He introduces himself and I asked him what these cars go for and he said this one was 41.5k. I laughed because that was 25 grand over budget. Then he mentioned the v6's. He said they have '12 LS's starting at 24.5k. So I said cool can I test drive one? So we did. I liked the car a lot so I went to another dealer to see if I can get them to fight on prices.

The second dealer put me in an LS to test drive and it broke down on me on the test drive (engine over heated bc of no oil being in the car...good one idiots). They had the nerve to ask me to walk back to the dealership. So I left those guys pretty unhappy (the next day they called back and tried to sell me that same car)

I went back to Jake Sweeney and after a 24 hour test drive I bought a VR 2012 1LS.

About a month later, I was driving home from work and my local Toyota dealer had a used 2011 SS sitting out next to a used 2011 5.0. I thought that was pretty cool. Didn't think much of it. They later both disappeared.

Fast forward 1 month. I am driving passed that same dealership and I see an awesome 2007 Mustang GT with a full body kit and god knows what else. I pull in to look at it and a salesman comes up. I saw this thing looks and sounds AWESOME. He took me for a test drive and I asked him how much HP it had. He said around 300. I told him my v6 had 312. He said wow and knew his chances were gone. When we got back I told him I'd like to upgrade to an SS some day. He took my information and said he'd call if he gets one it.

The next day he calls and tells me he had a black SS in that he forgot about the day before. I thought cool lets test drive it (I had absolutely no intentions of buying this beast. I just wanted to drive it lol) So we took it on a drive and I just said wow. I jokingly told him I would love to buy it if we could keep my payments the same. They had it listed for 38k with 3000 miles. I left.

Later that night I called my buddy who worked at that dealership and told him about my experience and he said he would see what he could do. The next day I got a call and he told me that the SS had been on the lot for 3 months and was about to go to auction. At this point I knew I had the dealer in between a rock and a hard place. I went in the next day and told them "Hey, I know this car is going to auction Monday, I know you need to sell it. Give me a price." They said 35k. I said no way. I told them I will buy it if they keep my payments no more than $50 more than what I was paying for the v6. So the salesman went back to the office and came back and said "alright, you got us, this is our final offer with trade". They offered 30.5 for the SS and 21.5k on trade (I bought the LS for 23 ). So 2 days after test driving a 2007 Mustang. I drove off with "Eve" my 2011 2SS non-rs.

THEN I joined c5...let the mods begin. (I am 21 with a limited knowledge of cars. I'm doing as much as I can lol. No supercharges in this girl. I am trying my best though.)

There is no saving gas. Gas will serve until it dies with honor.

Same here. As soon as I got her, driving became a competition and everyone else sucked at it (except the other Camaro owners, of course).

Supposedly replacing air with nitrogen in your tires will minimize air pressure fluctuations, thus helping fuel mileage????

you save gas by buying a flocking prius, not buy a 6.2L muscle car, or hell even the V6 version (though they are slightly better on mpgs).

YOU BOUGHT A SPORTS CAR, GET OVER THE MPG WHINING AND DRIVE THE FLOCKING CAR.
This! There are plenty of gas-sipping alternatives.

i think i have the camaro/ muscle car speeding addiction cos boy i just hit it and this honey shooooots , i know for sure i wont buy 2ss hehe

this is my first muscle car.......... bottom line this is how it should be driven ( maybe hehe )
final thought, today i pushed the gas lil bit more when i was goin 45 i found myself going 73
I save gas in my SS by using a motorcycle for my daily commute to work. It saves me about $150a week in gas. The SS is regulated to weekend cruising.

A motorcycle is a good replacement for the SS fun wise too. You just need to find a cheap used one that fits your Camaro personality. If your only fun in the Camaro is speed, your going to need to find a sport bike. I had a 1997 Honda CBR 600 F3 the old sport bikes have comfortable seats for longer commutes and still are pretty fast. They won't out run a new bike, but if you using it for commuting to, your body will thank you, especially your back and your butt. I enjoy both the the speed factor and the cruising and car shows with the Camaro. I've been through 3 bikes now and I've worked my way from the CBR into my first cruiser bike that I got a few months back. I don't miss the car on my daily commutes.

Do the 6 cylinders get much better gas? My wife's mini van has a six and it gets great gas for a big giant vehicle.

Then you could slap a turbo on the 6 and cruise around, get great gas mileage, then use the boost when you need it to go crazy.

When I am depressed about the mpg of my SS, I pop into the Escalade and push the DIC button to see where my average MPG is in that beast...all is suddenly better with me and the SS again.
