I guess the biggest thing is looking at potential....C&D ran a 12.1@117 which isn't terribly fast but you have a great handling car with all the drivetrain built for more power. People are willing to regularly mod their SS so why wouldn't you mod the ZL1. Once you get modding it you'll probably find that you have a car that can stay in one piece 750-800 whp. That's how I look at it... I guess because before my camaro i had a 600whp gto all the stock cars in this price range seem a little slow. I have a friend with a 5.0 and stock he ran 12.5@113 vs. my SS 12.9@110. He went vortech I went IPS. He made 621 whp 494 wtq for 2,500 miles and the engine blew. I made 693whp 708wtq for now 18,000 miles and still going strong.
In short I like potential performance over stock performance..... I don't know about you all but I don't like leaving things stock.
