I dunno. In my experience, instances like the one recorded only occur in a work environment where that type of behavior goes unpunished. And when that general atmosphere is present, the types of acts recorded breed more of similar acts.

I generally believe that most people wouldn't naturally think this sort of behavior is okay. But if you see it happen over and over from other less inhibited people without any repercussion, then you will eventually begin to believe the behavior isn't as bad as you originally thought.

So, if the atmosphere at this particular dealership was tainted enough that doing burnouts and burning up someone's clutch, and then conspiring to defraud not only the customer, but GM as well, wasn't considered out of the question, then I'd have a hard time believing that these bad apples are the only ones present at that dealership.

Now, it's entirely plausible that the bad seeds really were only these three (or however many were involved), but the fact that the dealership originally thought they could solve the problem with one free tank of gas and a few extremely weak consolation prizes leads me to think the dealership might not have as many "innocent" employees as they would have you believe...

I have plenty of experience in working environments that prove that incorrect. I personally have seen good people report the bad, only to be themselves ridiculed and chastised for it. It all depends on where the bad apples are located in the corporations. If they're in the key places, then only takes a few of them to keep all the good ones silenced (usually with threat of their job)..

I myself have been subjected to that by reporting such incidents, only to have HR blow me off, hand me a "counseling brouchure" and pretty much tell me that it's my fault and the other person is just fine because "Well, he's a manager.".. Even when what was going on was borderline illegal.

You could be right and they could all mostly be jagoffs.. But, I've just seen too much of the opposite to fully believe it.

Right, but in most of those instances, how often do the "innocent" ones stick around and put up with that kind of environment?

I imagine that would create a pretty high employee turn-over rate...
