engine over temp?

So I started my car this morning and trurnd my defroster on cause it was 30 out. I got a ax off due to engine over temp. Car has never run hot or had any issues like this. My temp gauge does not work and the light stays on. Car runs fine and I have heat still. The wires to the sensor look fine. Maybe just a bad sensor or a car that just dont like the cold?

I would recommend taking it to a dealership to see if they can pinpoint the issue. If you want to provide me your VIN in a PM, I can check to see if you are currently under warranty.

Thank you but I was able to fix it myself. It was a temp sensor. It was worth spending the 16 bucks on the part than dealing with the hassle of the dealership that is here.
Once again thank you for your help!
