We have pulled 1.4+ G peaks in turns without an airbag deployment. We have spun at high speeds. Whenever Danny Popp autocrosses, the run is at the very outside edge of control with violent changes in direction, sudden and aggressive braking, acceleration and steering wheel inputs. Until the drive shaft broke, the bags did not deploy in the L/28. When I look at the videos of a couple of rollover bag deployments I see the wheels appear to be turned close to wheel lock and a shudder side to side in both cars just before the bags deploy. The shudder combined with a close to wheel lock steering angle is what I consider the trigger. I have seen numerous 5th Gens go off track. I have seen numerous 5th Gens AC and Road Course without incident. I saw a 5th Gen so out of control at C5 it did a 180 and hit a 55 gallon drum. No bags.

Read through that thread. It's tough to comment because it is a crappy situation for the owner to have that happen.
But on the other hand if the car rolled or was in a side impact (SIAB) or side collision (pole or tree or another car) and the airbags did NOT go off they would be complaining about that too. It doesn't sound fair when you say the car performed as it was designed and you are stuck with the repair bill. It is a difficult situation for sure. GM said the car is track capable and from what we've seen and heard, it certainly is and then some. But there are probably overlap conditions where the car is at the outside of the envelope and approaching what the sensing system indicates may be a crash event. Also, keep in mind, it isn't only a roll over. It is also trying to determine a side impact event. So being hit or sliding into a pole for example can and should in some cases deploy the airbags. Hard to say, but it is one of the risks of taking a street car to the track. It isn't a race car. It has to act like the law requires for a street legal car. So it did what it was designed to do. But from experience at another OEM, you simply can't comprehend every possible crash or crash similar event a car or truck will experience. It's just not possible.
