CAI Questions
Hey Guys, I am thinking about getting a CAI for my 2011 V6. From what little research I have done I think I am going to go with a K&N intake. Its within my price range ($250) and had good reviews. Does this seem like a good choice? I want something that sounds good and will add horsepower. My next question is will this have any bad long term effects on my engine? In my head it seems like you are allowing the engine to run harder than it was designed to and might be shortening its life? Will there be any impact on my MPG? Thank you!!

Actually, you are helping your engine run more efficiently by reducing restriction. Unless you are driving more aggressively after installing the intake you are not running it any harder. Assuming you don't put your foot in it more you can see a couple MPG improvement with a good intake. Like Franklin's Bee mentioned, there are much better air intakes out there for these cars. K&N has great brand recognition but their intakes have become less than impressive in recent years. The CAI Inc systems are by far the most popular intake we carry with Vararam and Roto-Fab being tied for a distant 2nd place. If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up.

Once in a while you will see a CAI Inc. CAI for sale in the classifieds section of this forum if they switched over to a V8, or traded in for the 12-13 model year V6. In my opinion, $250 is still a nice amount of hard earned money, and for a little bit more you can get one of the best performing and most popular intakes available for your vehicle. If you have any questions feel free to let me know, I would be happy to help you.

I love my CAI inc & it looks great. I love that the box is enclosed (does not have to seal against your hood pad making a mark on it), easy access, you can see the filter & it is insulated. The tube is also ceramic coated for further insulation. Afterall a cold air intake should keep the air cold, right? I have seen improved responsiveness & MPG. (I have better pics but from work this is the best one I can access) Good luck deciding.

I vote for CAI Inc. CAI but if you're set on K&N, get the Typhoon one. It causes no CEL but there's more pieces to install. The CAI Inc. CAI has fewer parts to install which means it's a lot easier to install. L
