I understand sidewall damage but unless your tracking your car is it an issue? I don't think an occasional high speed run warrants replacement. To each their own, but is it necessary?

I bought mine at time of purchase from my dealer. If you have a good relationship with your dealer you could ask them. (Even the out of state one should be able to offer one post purchase.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I will be looking into this. With tires this expensive, it makes sense to get this providing the cost is right..

Wow, looks like a big price difference in the tire/rim insurance from dealership to dealership. Had a screw puncture my SS tire and the filling station (Sunoco) told me it's out on the edge so the tire should be replaced. They said they will patch it, but it's 50/50 chance it may or may not hold. Cost me $20 and it held, but I never took it over a 100mph again. Didn't have the nerve to take the chance of the tire failing at high speed. Every time I drove the SS I've gone over 100mph, every time. That's what it's made for and not being able to do that, or should I say not willing to do that...that sucks...
So on the ZL1 it was a must to get the tire/rim insurance. Especially after everything I've read in the forum. Checked my tires thoroughly at the dealership and noticed two little bites in one tire. Size of a dime and not deep, but a little rubber chunk missing just from on/off loading I assume. So anyone getting ready to make the deal, GET THE TIRE/RIM INSURANCE. ITS WORTH THE MONEY. You wouldn't take your ZL1 out on the street with no insurance coverage, would you? Clip a curb and not only your tire is damaged, the rim will really set you back. Was worth the peace of mind for me. My dealership was asking $650 and I countered with $500 and he said okay. THE PRICE IS NEGOTIABLE, and if they are not budging just tell them you'll get it at another chevy dealership. Doesn't have to be bought at the same dealership. Once you say that they will be singing a different tune, they know they'll lose out and they will drop the price. Tell them to hold on a minute while you call the other dealership to get a price. Did that with my Tundra pickup while sitting there in the guys office, told them the other dealerships price (minus $50 for the aggravation). They said okay we will match that price. |

Sometimes I think I'm just getting cheep in my old age. Tires is just one of those things I put off buying due to the price. Kinda like buying new jeans, pisses me off also. I liked the days when I could buy a pair of big bell Levis for $10 and call it a day. Right now I'm shopping for tires for my SS and Sky. The SS still has the original rubber on it.

Ouch...this is why I got the tire/rim warranty also - wouldn't normally go for that sort of thing but it made sense at these prices for tires!

Nailing It... And not in a good way. Less than 600 miles on the tires and about a week ago I noticed the front drivers tire down a couple of pounds. The other three tires were at 31 psi, but the drivers was at 28 psi. No big deal, started the compressor and added a few pounds. One week later, today, same thing, noticed it last nite, down a couple of pounds, again at 28 psi or so. So again I added a few pounds, but just didn't seem right that the other three have never moved, all at 31 psi, so I checked the tire very thoroughly and behold, looks like a nail or something in the tire groove two inches in more or less. Called Quick service dept to
set up a visit on Monday. They are checking around trying to locate a tire. A nail/screw in one of these high performance tires and the tire has to be replaced. Sounds crazy, but that's what they do, brand new tire coming. The tire/rim warranty/insurance I purchased for $500 will pay for itself. Not even a month I've had the ZL1. I would be furious if I had to pay this out of pocket. Well worth the eight/nine bucks a month. Had planned to go for a drive to Newport Rhode Island this Sunday, but I'll wait till the tire is replaced. Was really looking forward to racking up some miles this weekend. Oh we'll, looking forward to the next weekend. Who knows, it's a very very slow leak, just might take her for a nice ride anyway. Still in break-in mode so I wouldn't be going too fast. Can't wait to reach that 1,500 mile mark! |

I pissed my sales guy off because I wouldn't sign any papers until I had the extended warranty and tire warranty price guarantee, everything about the deal including the car and warranties can be bartered for. |

I work at a Chevy dealership, and I just signed on my ZL1 last night. The COST for the tire/wheel warranty is $210. Obviously, I paid $210. And it covers EVERYTHING. It's a great tire/wheel warranty. You guys need to stop paying so damn much for these warranties! The price is negotiable and pretty much ANY dealer Finance Manager is willing to sell it to you for cost...as a last resort. They would rather sell it at cost and make no profit on it than to not sell it to you at all. They get back end bonuses for selling X amount of them per month. Hell, my Finance department will even take a loss on it...a small loss, but a loss nonetheless. So, now you know. A fair price to pay for it would be $400. After all, dealerships are in it for the profit, so let em make a little bit. Profit is a GOOD thing.

WOW
Thanks for the post and comments. I had NO IDEA the tire warranty covered nails, screws etc.... What is strange is the dealer must have "forgot" I bought the warranty LOL. Time for them to issue me a check for $427.00 front left I bought from a local wholesaler that the dealer installed. Once again many thanks for the post and comments. |
