Engine Oil Filler Cap Problem

I changed my oil on my LS3 at 490 miles and found the oil filler cap just sitting on top of the filler hole. I did not notice a oil pressure problem oil, the dipstick was up to the full mark and there was no oil splatter outside of the filler hole. I know I should have checked this when I picked the car up at the dealer but only checked the fluid levels. WILL THIS CAUSE ME ENGINE PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE?

I think you will be OK. How did the oil look when you changed it?

the cap being pulled off wont cause a problem, might get you a little dirty under the hood if its not there, but shouldnt damage anything. I run numerous cars without a cap, just a breather and never have problems.

Oil was not dirty and the smell was normal. It only had 490 miles on it. I use Mobile1 in all my cars, I am sure it did its job.

Does anyone know if the Camaro has the magnetic drain plug as used on the vette LS3??

The metal particles stuck the vette LS3 drain plugs is astounding for the first two or three oil changes.

No magnetic drain plug on mine. I had one on my Vette and my LTZ Silverado. Disappointed.

I'd buy one ASAP. I'm getting one for my son so he can replace it during his first oil change. Odd Chevy didn't include it since the vette LS3 has them.

According to GM powertrain all Camaro engines come with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Does the oil filler cap say that like it does on my CTS4?

Yes, the cap is marked Mobil 1 like other vehicles, at least on the SS I was looking at. I haven't looked under the hood at the V6.
