Hi, I am looking at buying some all-season or winter tires. I recently moved to Seattle from Texas. I am looking for a tire that will work great in the cooler temps and wet roads. I do not plan to drive my car in in snow and/or ice. I plan on getting a new set of rims in the spring with summer or all season.

What would you recommend for stock 20in rims ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!
I used to work in the tire industry for 5 years, so I can chime in too!

Sounds like the Pirellis are pretty close to needing replacements. Typically if you can see all of Lincoln's head, they are worn out and need to be replaced, so you probably have about 1/32" of treadlife left before they are down to the legal allowable limit.

If it were me, I would probably get the snow tires and summer replacements or get the snow tires now and get the summer replacements before you change over to your summer tires.

Well, was forced to order my snow tires and wheels for my SS today from Tire Rack. It is currently snowing and I was able to get to my job, just not go through the gate to my job! :(

Oh well, I guess I don't mind when the Camaro wants me to have a day off! Too bad I can't drive it though! :(

Rudy, I put Camaro5 in the Additional Info field on the order form so you should be able to find my order.

I would recommend the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. They have very good wet and light snow traction. One of the Best all weather tires.

Hi Rudy,

Recently I got a set of OEM 19" off ebay (without tire pressure sensor) and pirelli scorpion snow and ice for the winter from tirerack(245/45 all four). They will be put onto my 2010 SS with RS package, switch out the stock 20" wheels and summer tires(245/45 front 275/40 back I believe). My question is, is it possible to swap the wheels myself? The winter ones are already balanced and fitted onto the 19s. How is the tire pressure sensor connected to the car? How do I disconnect it? I know the tire lights will be up all winter on the 19s, and the speedo will be inaccurate. Are there anything else I need to know? Pepboys guys said they can do the swap for $20 since the tires are already on the rims, should I just ask them and skip the trouble or is it a simple jack up and unscrew?

Also I am aware that the pirelli summer tires don't last very long, how about the pirelli scorpion snow and ice? What would be a good substitute when my current set runs out? This car is my only DD and I only do about 12k driving per year. I don't bring it to the tracks but I do rev it above 4.5k on straight highways. Price isn't a huge concern as long as the new set can last a bit longer than the stock ones. Oh and I will be getting them from tirerack for sure, that shipping was crazy fast......

Thanks a lot ^___^ sorry about the long winded questions, this will be my first winter with the SS so I'm a bit worried......

If you have the Time and a Jack you can swap out the Winter and Summer sets yourself. Saves you from having to transport them to & from the shop.
TPS are in the Valve stem so tire Swap is easy. If winter tire do not have TPS then you will get a message on the
DIC telling you this. Just press the button on Turn signal lever and it clears.
this happens every time you start the car.
I have been running a similar setup on my 2010 since 2009 and have 20K on car both sets of tires look great.

I am hoping this is the appropriate forum for these questions. I just bought a 2013 Camaro 2LT, RS and have the factory 20" wheels and Pirelli summer tires. I am looking to buy wheels and tires for winter driving so I can swap them out each season. I see a few people on here are selling 20" wheels from prior year 5th Gen Camaro SS's.

I have a few questions:
1. Will the 20" wheels from a prior year SS fit my 2013 LT, RS model?
2. If yes, what tires are recommended for winter driving in NE Ohio for such wheels?
3. I like the look of factory wheels for winter also, but am I better off going to a smaller wheel? Tire rack package reccomends a 17" wheel tire combo for my Camaro.
4. Tirerack I saw a post back in 2010 that said you install the TPMS free in your wheel tire combo's. Appears that is now almost a $200 charge, am I reading that correctly? Also, is the TPMS reset device something I need at $80.

Sorry for all the questions, but appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Yes

If you are using the OEM 20" wheels, it would be best to use the narrower of the 2 tires. P245/45R20. The narrower the tires, the easier it is for the car to get traction through the snow to the road. Wider tires don't work as well in the snow as narrow tires do.

I'm not sure how bad winters are in Ohio, but I personally think that the Bridgestone Blizzak tires are among the best, but have heard the Pirelli Scorpion Snow tires are good on the 20" wheels.

3. I like the look of factory wheels for winter also, but am I better off going to a smaller wheel? Tire rack package reccomends a 17" wheel tire combo for my Camaro.
I had a set of 17" wheels and tires for my LT and it worked great. The 17" wheels gives you more flex due to having more sidewall material than the 20" tires have which gives you better grip in the snow or any low traction conditions.

4. Tirerack I saw a post back in 2010 that said you install the TPMS free in your wheel tire combo's. Appears that is now almost a $200 charge, am I reading that correctly? Also, is the TPMS reset device something I need at $80.
IDK about this one. I've never seen the TPMS sensors being free on Tirerack.com. It was probably some sort of special that they had back in 2010. Also, I think in order to reset the TPMS on the Camaros you just follow the instructions in the user manual, but IDK I never get TPMS sensors for my winter wheel/tire sets.

Sorry for all the questions, but appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Hope that helps!

I agree with Pyscho RS. We never gave TPMS sensors free. We have always installed them free of charge. Have the TPMS device makes it a little easier to reset but usually just following the process in the manual reset works fine.

First of all I am not sure those 19 inch wheels are going to clear the brakes of your car. Have you tested them on the front wheels? The tire pressure sensors are mounted under the valve stem. The tires ned to be taken off to install.

To replace the summer tires the BFG Gforce comp2's are a good tire with better wear than the Pirelli. Let me know if you have other questions.

You are right >___< I do need spacers for the front wheels...... Should I go ask a dealer or do you guys carry the spacers for the 19" wheels on an SS? Pepboys said I should have called you guys when I ordered the tires instead of getting it directly online lol, a real person would know about it

What size spacers do I need? Are there OEM spacers made for the SS without RS package?

Update: order placed

I put in the order for the black 17" MSW Type22s. I have a friend who can get the DMV1s for $139 a piece delivered, saving $$$ on shipping. Mounting will cost $60 but overall I still save cash this way.

Previous post:

I don't understand why I can't add items to my cart on the website. The preferred package includes silver painted MSW 17" rims. I want the black ones. If I browse by brand and go to MSW I can only see a picture of the wheel. If I browse by Model (2012 2LT RS) I can only view 20"+ rims.

Please help! =)
