BUZZ...trust me when I say that ANY muffler shop will not have a problem installing the 2.5" magnaflow resonated X pipe (muffler) in place of the stock H pipe. This is the right part. The pipes leading into the stock H pipe are 2.5" but after that they are reduced down to 2.25". The shop will be able to deal with that just fine although you may want to give them a heads up about it.
It sounds like the other X you ordered is a tru X pipe (not a muffler) which you do not want to use. They only seem to cause more rasp on the V6. I'd say your muffler deletes should sound better when you get them clamped and probably even more so if you had them welded in place, but you may want to hold off on that if you are not positive you will keep them. Back to the magnaflow resonated X. You may know this already, but the res X will tame the sound a bit and it will end up a bit smoother and not as aggresive...thats just what it does and could be a negative depending on what you are hoping to achieve. The positives should be even less drone and usually a slightly lower tone. If you find you are completely happy with what you have and see no reason to add the resonated X, then don't. That said....I'm very curious to see what that setup sounds like. I hope you can get us some decent quality videos when it is all said and done because I'd love to hear more than what we have heard so far.

I also just added this to the V6 exhaust sticky thread

Well alright then! Sorry my vids weren't the greatest but maybe Buzz can do us a little more justice in that department. The system really is awesome for the price. Thanks KM.. Maybe I will make another attempt at it after the storm passes..

I just bought Pypes axle back for my 2010 L99. My mechanic messed with them for 3 hours and I still did not like the fit although they did sound great. I pulled them off immediately. For now I just replaced the mufflers with straight pipe and stock tips. Anyone interested in my Pypes, $200 plus shipping.

Sorry to leave anybody hanging on my progress of getting my Pype Bomb on V6 finished. I thought I'd add this info in case somebody is currantly going about doing the same thing.
What happened is that I ordered the wrong adaptors, but the new ones are on the way. I'm kinda hell bent on not having them welded on or anything cut, and especially the Pype Bombs themselfs. I have them on the car since I got them but they are not clamped on but are secure enough to drive. Evan though I have not had a chance to drive it with it clamped on properly due to having the wrong adaptors, I agree with what has been said by the others. There is a drone but not overwhelming, and that could be done with as I have a brand new in the box Magnaflow resonated Cross pipe. But I'm going to first see how it sounds with just the Pype Bombs. I did measure the pipe where the Magnflows would go and was told right, the entrance pipe is 2.5, so it only needs adaptors at the exit. Here is what you need to buy (pretty sure anyway) if you want to install either the Pype Bombs and or the Magnaflow resonated X pipe. For the Pype Bomb only: Purchased Items from Summit Motor sports: Item # Item Price Qty Line Total WLK-36437 Dynomax Performance 36437 - Walker Torctite Exhaust Clamps $7.95 2 $15.90 WLK-41963 Dynomax Performance 41963 - Walker Exhaust Pipe Adapters and Reducers $2.95 2 $5.90 Part Subtotal $21.80 Order Charges Delivery and Handling Charge $4.95 Order Subtotal $26.75 Ending Balance $26.75 That's all you need for them because the Pypes come with 2 clamps, but you need 2 more because of the fitment over the V6's 2.25" pipe. If your going to get the Magnflow X pipe, you will need two more of the Walker part #41963 adaptors and 4 more clamps (two 2.25" and two 2.5") as the Magnaflow does not include any with them. Yes, I agree that if you get them welded on you got to make sure they are held in place, not too far back, forward or down, etc. For hanging them on the stock rubber hangers, the Pypes hang too low but it looks like I can get them to hang higher by adding on an adjustable hanger from the autoparts store. Not sure which one I'll end up using but when I'm done I'll snap photos. You will need to remove the rear diffuser for this operation but before you do dry fit the pypes so you understand the fitment issues. I think they look cooler sticking out a bit farther than the hangers will allow but I'll have to focus on just getting them to fit in the center of the diffuser's holes. BTW, I had my suspension lowered, and the one estimate I got from a local muffler shop was scary, the car bottom scraped the lift. So he put it on the lift that has the pull-out arms, that was still scary with slight clearance issues. Maybe it was the casual attitude of the mechanic but if I need to have the Magnaflows installed, I won't be going back there. A do-it-yourself for the Magnaflow will be coming, that is if I can do it. They would be located where the H pipe is and that is dead center, so I'd have to figure out how to rase up the car far enough, currently I'm using only ramps. In case you missed my earlier post, I hacksawed my stock mufflers off very close the muffler, leaving the pipe as long as possible. I figured that if they are too long for the Pypes, I can cut off more but once cut off it's too late. Summit is very fast, so I'd expect the adaptors to be here today or tomorrow. In fact, I think I'm going to order the clamps and adaptors for the Magnaflow ahead of time as the others are saying this will get rid of most of the drone. IT's getting cold here in MI and I was very close to just going to Plymouth MI and getting the MR-2 system put on for me at their facitlity. But now I'm into this knee deep and am not backing out ![]() EDIT: The adaptors arrived, and though they are the right fit for both ends, there is a big problem getting the bombs to align-up correctly straight thru the diffuser. At first I though I just needed to cut more of the tailpipe off, so I did, than 1 more inch, so than I quit. I'm going to look for a good muffler shop to do the following: Install my Pypes, and not only that but my Magnaflow res. x-pipe. I'll bring along the diffuser and make sure they see what I mean so when it's in it will not be resting against the sides and, as it is now, they are pointing in-wards. Besides installing them I might want them to just remove the 2.25" stock tailpipe/resonators and install some 2 1/2" pipe. So, basically I'd be getting a custom "cat-back". That would probably be easier for them but not cheaper for me, and where can I find a shop that has stainless steel pipe. If they have to special order stainless pipe no problem, I'll just wait. I have drove it around with the Pypes (now they don't leak)..and got to agree, the drone between 1800 and 3000 is too much, now, if you really get on it, it does sound quite nice. But I can't deal with the drone, I got to have the Magnaflow installed. I won't trust just any muffler shop, the ones that installed my springs would probably be up to it. Besides, I couldn't do the x-pipe thing in my driveway because it's in the center, I don't have jack stands, floor jack or a torque wrench. But I did plot out a way to drive it up onto a home made lift. (not cheap or easy, but here it goes).. my ramps could drive it up on lumber planks that are 12' in length (2x12"x12'). It would require 5 of them on each side stacked up for about a 10" clearance. 2x10"x12's would cost about $15.00 each, but the 12" wide cost over $21.00 (safer). I'd have no use for them other than this one time project, than I'd be stuck with about $200 in lumber and no where to store it. I looked at doing this with only one plank each side using cynder blocks under them, would end up costing less but if I were really serious, I'd just construct them out of lumber instead of stalking them, and get a nice 12" height. I'd bet that others have posted threads on how to build drive up lifts here, but like I said, I wouldn't really need anything more than ramps which I already have. I don't need them just for one project, which it appears I can't do anyway cause I can't bend pipe or weld them either. Last edited by BUZZCAMARO; 11-04-2012 at 09:51 PM. |

I've drove the car to the place that installed my springs, they said they couldn't bend s.s. pipe without a mandrell bender which they don't have. Frankly he suggested I go with a system pre-fabricated for my exact car. He said the Mag. x-pipe wouldn't do much muffling, sorta tame it down is all. So here's where we are, Pypes are on it, fit crooked (pointing inwards) and with no diffuser on it. I thought all I needed was to shorten the tail pipes, I don't know what is wrong, if they are suposed to fit a V8 what is (if anything) different about v6 exhaust besides the diameter? I'll have to measure how far I've cut exactly because all axel back (if I go that way) require a certain exact length of the stock pipes. A. My options are to start over again from scratch, selling off what I have and or returning them. B. Have pros install the x-pipe and bombs for me, and maybe replace the section from teh x-pipe to the bombs with 2.5" pipe. All the while they make sure they fit nicely thru the diffuser. The MRT facility is not too far from me, maybe I call them for an appointment, who knows, maybe the MRT version II is probably my best option. C. So, to keep the Pypes, and the Mag. x-pipe, I'll end up with a system much louder than most any performance system. Let me know if I'm wrong, but I think the x-pipe is not going to get rid of the drone between 2000 and 3000. Anywayyy.. here is how my car sounds right now, well allmost...: |

I guess that's what the 10 inch piece of pipe was for when they installed mine. With the additional piece of pipe Mine fit straight on and they are properly mounted and it only took an hour. It cost around $150, its welded and fits like a.glove. I know some people like to do it themselves but I can't deal with the frustration. I'm not as patient.

I have the X pipe installed with the Pypes kit, the Mag X pipe tones the sound down. The exhaust coupled with my shorty headers sounds amazing at idle, but I still have significant drone in 2nd gear. I think the exhaust sounds great otherwise, it has no drone on the highway from 55- 80mph. I am looking to install J pipes to help with the bottom end drone. I had my Pypes kit and Mag X pipe installed at a local muffler shop for $150, they fit perfect and the install time was about 1.5hr.

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that the sound of my exhaust has really cleaned up on its own. I'm guessing that it is fully broken in and I have to say, I love it even more. Friday night I was out at the local hang out for all us car guys and ran into a few 5th Gen owners. 2 V8 owners and 1 V6 once again Silva stole all the attention. If your on Camaro 5 forums you really have an upper hand because most guys don't know whats available for our cars. My exhaust was the strongest out there from the sound to the appearance it was clearly the most powerful sounding and the best looking. Everyone wanted to know what system I had. A proud moment and at this point I have to say I'm not interested in changing a thing . I don't want to change the sound at all. Today has been a perfect day with 70 degree weather so I decided to try and make some vids to back my talk up. I hope they come out better but I really don't think vids represent the true sound of an exhaust. I will post when I get home tonight.

It is definitely not quiet! lol But then again KM I didn't get an aftermarket exhaust to have a system that sounds a tad bit more than stock. My CAI added a deeper note to the exhaust I could have just left it at that if that was the case! My daughter's mother was saying its loud but every guy I run into says it sounds good without being too much! I guess it depends on what your looking for!
