The sonic is the better choice. Having extra money during college is soo helpful to deal with unexpected costs. Parking, utility aka room for stuff in case you need to move boxes (the camaro trunk is ug), relaxing cruises, less worries during stressful times, less distraction from girls (this will happen), and guys trying to push your buttons out of jelousy. With the sonic, you will have a much better college experience. When you graduate, you could get a ZL1.

Based on everything, my vote is camaro.

Why?

You need to go through the experience of "benefits and cost of decisions". You need to experience some or all of the above items mentioned.

You will learn about yourself more and when/when not to take risks and this is key. So when you're at cross roads over and over again, you'll say "I don't want choice A because xyz will happen. I know me."

Having intelligence and playing it safe is ok. But having intelligence and wisdom from life lessons and knowing how you react in certain situations is what makes leaders. Your parents trust you and you seem to be a stand-up guy. You only live once.
As much as I hate that last quote, that's exactly what I'm kind of deciding off of. The college I'm planning on going to is about 10 minutes from my house, so the trunk won't really be needed. It only has to be able to fit a backpack. What's wrong with distractions from girls?

After I would break up with a girl, I would grow my hair out and a mustache and start going by Tyrone Jenkins. Then she won't know it's me.

After a visit with my grandparents last night, and my parents telling them about the car I'm about to get, an IOM 1LS, my grandpa mentioned getting himself a ZL1. Then, my grandma mentioned something about their 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP. So now, my rich grandparents are planning on giving me the G8. My parents want to buy it from them though, just because that car's still worth about $35k. It has 4k miles and has been taken care of SO WELL. The reason they haven't put many miles on it is they really, really like their 2005 (I think) CTS-V. This G8 is also a stickshift. I'm so happy. 415 HP.

Whoa dude. That thing DRINKS gas. 13/20 highway. Yea, 10 minutes away isn't much but that is going to be really expensive to gas up. Talking approx 3k a year @12k annual miles.

Can you afford the gas and to maintain it? Do you or will you have a job to pay for it? Will your parents help? The warranry is about to be up on it in another year I imagine. Not trying to be a turd. Far from it. Just being realistic.

But it seems your whole family supports this idea so it says to me you're a responsible dude. So I guess its ok. Just park it in very clear areas. Study the patters of jealous folks.

Yeah, I know the gas mileage is horrible. The car is very nice though. I plan on getting a summer job, I don't have to though. My parents don't want me to have a job during the school because then my grades would probably slip.

My grandpa is awesome and kind of a Pontiac enthusiast . I wonder if he'd rather give me his black 2009 Solstice GXP Coupe. That thing is SEXY. But the problem with that is he looks at that car like it'll be a collector's item later on. It probably will be, only 1200 or so made.

I know its easy to say you wont show off or you will behave, I been there though. I said the same things, I wont speed, I wont show off.

Its so tempting to smash that loud pedal and show off and go fast. It took me getting tickets and almost busted for racing to straighten me out.

Even if you do end up getting the Cruze, it's still a win. My buddy just got one to drive instead of always driving his full-size truck to save some gas, and I gotta say, I'm very impressed by it. It's a damn nice car! We're both over 6' tall, and there's plenty of space in it. It's no Camaro when it comes to performance, but honestly, I was going to get a either a V6 Camaro or the Cruze, I'd pick the Cruze.

...just my 2 cents.
