USB Flash drive questions!!

I have been using an Apple iPod nano 16gb for a while connected to my new MyLink radio in the ZL1!
I'm interested in getting a USB flash drive instead! Can anyone chime in on if the USB 2.0 drives are any faster in the car than the regular USB flash drives, or iPod for that matter!
I'm thinking of possibly getting a 32gb flash drive and transfer my music at a higher bit rate than I have on my iPod! Main question is, do any of you with this experience think this is worth it, for the various obvious reasons!!!
Thanks

I'm not sure if they've done anything about it since I tried using a flash drive in my car a few years ago, but every time I would start my car it needed to index all the songs on the flash drive. This would typically take 5-10 minutes for only around 1700 songs. So by the time it was ready to actually play any music, I'd be where I was driving to. Again, not sure if they fixed it or not, but I'd just stick with the iPod.

That needs to happen with just about any MP3 player though. That process would be sped up greatly if you bought a USB stick with a faster throughput.

I use a 16GB Kingston flash drive in my 2012 and it's great! once the initial index has been completed, its way faster then it is at controlling an ipod.

REGARDLESS of what kind you get or use, it will index EVERYTIME you start your car....HOWEVER, this only happens if you remove the flash drive or your Nano. IF you leave it plugged in. when you get in your car, it will start playing immediatly and where ever you left off, it will inticate that its indexing but will only take about 30 to 40 seconds as it playes the songs that were already indexed.

I have been using either a 8 gig drive or my Zune in this fashion for 3 years and hasn't failed yet.

I have a 2013 ZL1 (Red Tintcoat).

I cannot get the MyLink to read from a 16GB memory stick. The stick works flawlessly on an Onkyo home surround receiver. Is there some way that I have to build the stick? Likewise, it cannot find the pictures on the stick. Can anyone help me out here?

Also, the Pandora does not work with my blackberry. When I try, really bad things happen (like blackberry music on the car speakers and pandora out the blackberry speaker). Does anyone have some advice?

Thanks :-)

I had an AHA moment today with a co-worker. The New CRT only understands FAT32 format USB disks. If you formatted your USB stick with NTFS (normal supported under XP and later), it will not read it. I just tried it with my Pirates of Penzance CD and it worked great. Further, it supports WMA Lossless CD format, so you can even get some decent quality sound out of the unit.

Try reformatting your USB stick with FAT32. I also have heard some other issues with the USB ports whilst scrounging around the labs.

All my best
