Someone out there please help with this!
What rpm does the LS3 turn at 70 in 6th? If anyone knows how to figure what it would turn at 70 with 3.90 gears.

I think the numbers for the track times were off of the Automatic? Am I not correct about that? Anyone have numbers off of the stock SS M6?
Another thing I have noticed is on takeoffs when on an incline. The G8 does not even notice it, but I have to give the Camaro a bit more RPMs to get out of the "HEB" parking lot. It may be that the G8 is "tighter" in its feel because of the smaller frame. If anyone is in Austin and wants to take a ride in the G8 to comapare, I am willing to let you see what I am talking about. |

That's on my "to do" list. Comare the Camaro RPMs through the gears vs the G8. I can tell you that cruising in 6th at 70 in the G8 is around 2500 RPM, where as in the Camaro from what I remember is much lower. In fact, right now, I don't even use 6th in the Camaro. |

That's fine comparing the TA to the Camaro, but the G8 just has a better feel. More aggressive. If I could just get that feel in the Camaro, I would be a happy camper. The G8 also has smaller diameter wheels, that could add a little to it as well. So maybe 3.90's are the way to go instead of 3.73's.

As for the gearing, I am really impressed with mine. I will have to agree that the LS3 really seems to be a beast from 2500 +. I’m thinking the typical bolt-ons will really open up the bottom RPM's (headers, FIPK, Tune. I’d wait and see what the bolt-ons do before I would change my gears. My best bud installed 390’s in his Forth Gen and he has a hard time keeping it stuck… Oh, and why don't you run the two to see who really is the faster ride.

What are your short and long term modification plans for your car? The more HP/TQ you end up with, the less gears matter. You have a pretty low first gear. If you make much more power, you will just smoke the tires. Is your intent max traction at the track, or burnouts on the street? Your choice. If you just want plain 'ol seat of the pants feel, then jump the gears up to 3.9+. Afterall, with you in it the car does weight 4,000 lbs. Last edited by speedster; 06-12-2009 at 01:01 PM. |

The difference is in the tire heights. It's as simple as that. Don't forget to factor that in when trying to compare rear end ratio's.

As I've tried them all in The GTO
The 3.73' is a way better than the 3.42' ... but just in 1/4 mile , on the open road I prefer the 3.42 much more than the 3.73 , that because the engine has low revs . If you want the best thing get the 3.73 whith a cam ;-)

Ok, here you go, a few comparisons from a spreadsheet I have...
These are the shiftpoints in each gear: 2010 Camaro M6 (3.45 rear) 6600 rpm redline 1. 54 2. 79 3. 114 4. 163 2009 G8 GXP M6 (3.70 rear) 6600 rpm redline 1. 47 2. 68 3. 99 4. 142 2010 Camaro A6 (3.27 rear) 6000 rpm redline 1. 39 2. 66 3. 102 4. 136 2002 Camaro M6 (3.42 rear) 6000 rpm redline 1. 50 2. 74 3. 103 4. 134 2009 Mustang GT (3.73 rear) 6000 rpm redline 1. 39 2. 65 3. 99 4. 130 Obviously the 2010 camaro is geared for fuel mileage, but it is actually very close to the 2002 M6 cars, I know a lot of people are familar with those. The G8 GXP has a noticeable amount of gearing advantage when you consider the tire size. Direct tradeoff for fuel mileage. The main difference between the 2002 and 2010 camaro is that the 2010 has a 6600 rpm redline vs. the 2002's 6000 rpm redline. Given the same rpm and gear, however, the mph is about the same, so the gearing is mostly the same.

this is definately true, this car with a 6-speed & LS3 needs 4.10's and 275/35/20 drag radials
