Im 24, have some tickets and i pay 120 per month for 2 cars fully insured. Im not under my parents insurance its my own, ontop of all that i live in NJ where insurance tends to be really high. Not sure how you are paying that much more than me, because i bet i have more tickets than you do lol.

Not to put a hole in your boat...A 425 hp car with an 18 year old kid? Crazy. I had a, or I should say, my dad had a 426 Hemi Plymouth in the late 60's, and I was turned loose with it. Big mistake...Damn near killed myself with it. To many horses, and not enough years lived to know how to handle it.

Regardless of how you got the car. You should worry more about getting income in and paying for your currentl living needs instead of worrying about an SS. 4K a year is already thru the roof, and it would be insane to try and waste money on even more insurance.

If the car is paid for due to money you got on your dad's death (sorry for the loss) then get liability only and take the remaining money and put it in a bank as your own insurance policy. You don't need comp/collision if you don't have a loan against the car.

These are my opinions and there are some assumptions in there of course, but be smart about it and not wasteful with your money.

No offense, but there is a world of difference between a modern 5th gen Camaro and a 60's hemi Plymouth. Excellent crash rating for one, and traction control for another. Not saying its impossible to be stupid in a new Camaro. But I'd say its a LOT easier to be stupid in a 60's Plymouth.

When you get a large sum of money, it may seem like "you have made it" and "it's ok to spoil yourself". But try get back down to earth for a moment. The money you have now is not increasing, you are simply spending it until it runs dry. When that happens, the cost of running a V8 as an irresponsible kid will kick in FAST.

Say you get a used SS on a good deal for 30k, the average fuel cost is 1 dollar per 4 miles assuming $4/gallon and 16 mpg which seems to be the average for most ppl. That is $25000 on gas ALONE to run this car for 100k miles, aka majority of its lifespan. Then factor in your insane insurance cost at least 10k a year, tires $1000 a set every 20k miles, maintenance, you are looking at almost $16000 a year just to run the damn car. That is total living cost for a lot of people, or mortgage on a cheaper house.

Once you do get a job, assume you get paid well for 100k a year, you will end up with about 60k after tax. When you eventually move out on your own, the rent and living cost will mount up to be over 10k. Suddenly the car cost becomes almost 1/3 of your actual savings every year...... Then what if you can't find a 100k job? Are you going to spend every dime you earn to run a big toy? Will you just sell the car? Will you regret for not saving the money in the first place?

People give you a lot of shit in this post because you are not living responsibly at all. I'm sure many people see you as a "crash and burn" case waiting to happen. It's ok to have fun once in a while, but you are at 11 you need to dial it back to 5

Holy monkey spunk!

I'd dump the insurance all together and run free! If the world is going to rob you then definitely get yours first. Supercharger, suspension/chasis upgrades, WHEELS, one loud as hell exhaust, and a Orangutan for a sidekick!

Right turn Clyde!

Back when I first got my '00 Z28,my insurance company lied to me about how much my policy was going to go up.I remember calling around for coverage (before the internet!) and I remember the highest was $6,000.00 ! This was back in 2000,I was 28 then with a clean history.

[QUOTE=monstertodd;5782876]I think it's insane that my car insurance went UP when I moved from California to South Carolina this summer.

Thats because of all the uninsured/uninspected vehicles in SC. Not to mention the state says you don't have to register trailers, or HAVE WORKING BRAKE LIGHTS You are probably paying in advance for one of them causing the accident.

People have zero sense of financial stability and are more worried about public appearance, then their future (college, family, house, debt free life).
Damn i am busted. I must go to dealer and tell them to cancel the factory order on my new Camaro. Wait a minute Dec 22 2012 is right around the corner. What should i do.

I have raised 6 children and haven given them the foundation and advice to not go out and make all of these mistakes. The burning question is did they take all of my worldly advice?
