Probably a hoax but in case it is not....
Someone posted a screenshot of the BBC online news which shows the date of November 5, 2012.
The top story on the BBC news page says "Nasa warns of potential Asteroid impact". They describe an object the size of the state of Texas. They imply it will arrive late December 2012, or early January. Says object is moving 31,000 mph. Article states object has 30 percent chance to hit earth. I would not want to imagine anything hitting earth at 30,000 mph. (If the article really did exist, it can no longer be found anywhere.) This is likely a professional hoax, however the person posting it claims he has screenshots from 3 different news outlets reporting the same thing. Here is a link to his info: http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/s...collision.html The only reason I somewhat pay attention to this, is because to me, you cannot really talk about that topic out loud to the general public (if the story is true) because it would lead to panic. Someone on CNN-i-report also talked about this asteroid situation: (not that this gives the story any further credibility) http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-872812 |

I just looked up reddit and Google news. Nothing about this. Looked up onion news and they had a piece on an asteroid destroying the earth, but that was Oct last year.
I deem this fake. Sent from my Galaxy Note |

I found it without much issue: http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative...d-2492862.html http://paranormal.about.com/od/zsitc...pproaching.htm lots of links indicating the news story was removed from some major new outlets.. lots of theories about it on youtube also.. not that youtube is a news source, just sayin' is all.

I don't believe it for a min, but couldn't they blow it up while it is in space anyway?

We have limits on how big of an object we can blow up.

An asteroid that size struck the Gulf of Mexico and formed the Yucatan Peninsula.
from wiki.. According to the Alvarez hypothesis, the mass extinction of the dinosaurs at the transition from the Cretaceous to the Paleogene Period, the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary (K–T boundary), 65 million years ago was caused by an asteroid impact somewhere in the greater Caribbean Basin. The deeply buried Chicxulub Crater is centered off the north coast of the peninsula near the town of Chicxulub. The now-famous "Ring of Cenotes" (visible in NASA imagery) outlines one of the shock-waves from this impact event in the rock of ~65 millions years of age, which lies more than 1 km below the modern ground surface near the centre, with the rock above the impact strata all being younger in age. The presence of the crater has been determined first on the surface from the Ring of Cenotes, but also by geophysical methods, and direct drilling with recovery of the drill cores. |

No need to blow it up, we just have to nudge it off course. And if there were an asteroid that big on a collision course with Earth, we likely would have spotted it a while back and would have had time to give it a 10 kiloton "nudge"
