I wouldn't be worried for the clutch, as its something that can be replaced and you have the option to add a better clutch. What I would be worried about is the "so cautious its dangerous". You mentioned she drives a trailblazer, now imagine your wife getting used to the power the SS has to offer, it might be a scary combination.

YES PLEASE!!

I taught Mindz's wife how to drive mine cause he was too chicken to trust her with his baby. She did great. First thing I had her do was to let her foot off the clutch real slow until the car rolled on it's own, no gas, stall. I wanted her to know how the car would react in a stall situation. Shifting into 2nd was a little rocky, but she got it after a few times. The only stresser was when we rolled by the group, she was so excited she got the brake and clutch pedals confused

OMG, It's not that complicated. If she has any coordination at all she'll be fine. I'd be more worried about you making her nervous with your paranoia. I've taught two female friends and a male cousin. Guess what, the girls got it right away and the boy can do jumping jacks out of sequence he's so uncoordinated and even he manages. Not smoothly, but can get from point A - B fairly competently.

Take a drink, and a deep breath and if you have to, find someone else to teach her. It will be fine, and so will your car.

This is what I'm wondering. I'm a woman and had no issues learning to drive stick, but apparently the consensus is that we're idiots who tear up cars

I didn't either, learned on one when I was 15 but I have to admit I've seen enough to say that most (not all) women are idiots who tear up cars.

Well I guess we are talking about a woman because the OP is married to one. If he were teaching his son to drive a stick for the first time then that is who we'd talk about. If he were teaching his life partner then that is who we would be talking about - etc. So its not a woman thing - its a "he is nervous about teaching a first time stick driver" thing.

. on a serious note. I've let people drive my car even my 16 yr old sister who was beginning to learn to drive. By all means its a car and stuff can be replaced. But what counts for me is that she can say that her big bro let her drive his car . and she only stalled a few times.
