New member with a few questions

I'm new to the forum, been reading a ton over the last week. I have a few questions that I'm hoping some of you can answer.

Quick background; Last week my husband and I bought a SIM 2LT/RS from a friends dealership. We love it but after looking around a lot more, we are both in love with the IOM SS so we ordered one through the same friends dealership. The 2LT will be being sold. (Don't ask, my husband is in the car business and this kind of stuff is normal for him) Anyways, the car we ordered is an IOM 2SS/RS, sunroof, interior trim package, polished wheels and GFX.

Question #1: The Chevy website says the GFX are a dealer installed option. Is this really the case? The GFX do not come attached from the factory? Does this mean the GFX just bolt on to the existing bumper cover? I know that's how after market GFX work, but I kind of thought these factory ones would be attached a little nicer.

Question #2: I've only seen one picture so far of the IOM with GFX and they looked like they were cyber gray. Is that the color GFX I can expect with an IOM car? I've seen a picture of the Rally Yellow car with GFX and they were RY as well. Same with a black car, the GFXs were black.

Question #3: I read the thread here where people were having trouble with their order getting messed up when they selected the polished wheels. The RS package got dropped, or other options they had selected. Is this still likely a problem and something we need to have our friend stay on top of?

Last Question: About how long can I expect to be biting my nails waiting for the arrival of this car? A month? 6-8 weeks? Longer?

Thanks in advance to whoever reads this far and attempts answering some of my many questions!

1. & 2. GFX are dealer installed and painted by the dealer to mach your car unless otherwise requested ( My Understanding)

3. Still an issue...if you change your order before GM actually pics it up...Color or other options some have noticed that the RS option needs to be re entered aftermaking those changes.

The Best way to confirm is get a copy of your " Work Bench From your dealer and than you can confirm the options and color etc are entered correctly.

Just What I think I know but, I know I don't always know what I think...!

Woops Last question...Well....It seems as though it depends.
Tough Question. It mainly depends on dealer allocations and when those allocations are for.

Ex. My Dealer had 6 allocations before plant shutdown meaning July.

two for may 2 for June and 2 for July...I ended up being a june allocation only because Cyber Gray was not available before that and I was stubborn and didn't change color. See signiture for my timeline. Ordered OCT. 13, 2008 FIRST DAY!

I have ordered GFX as well and they will be argent gray when they arrive at your dealer and if you want them painted, you will have to pay you dealer to have the paint job done. I have heard of dealers charging between $450 to $900 for painting the GFX. If you feel your dealer is asking too much, I would begin getting quotes at other body shops.

Just a little add on. If you want your dealer to paint the GFX, you have to ask them to paint it and it cost extra.

To answer your third question, that represents a small amount of people on this site. It seems to be a dealer error for the most part, or something was lost in translation while sending info to GM. Chances are your car will arrive spec-ed out as requested.

Welcome to the site, and thanks for buying Chevy!

Not a dealership error! Its a software bug in GM workbench program. So you should check your workbench sheet, IF you make any changes after placing your order.

Carguy, the dealer we've ordered our SS through has an allocation for right now so hopefully that means sooner, rather than later, for getting the car delivered.

Gameover, so that program bug only seems to be an issue if you make changes AFTER you place the order? I don't imagine we'll make any changes, unless my husband decides not to fool with the GFX. I'll still have our friend take a look at the work bench and make sure everything looks right.

FenwickHockey65, my husband is a GM guy through and through. 95% of the vehicles I've had in the last 7 years have been GM products. I did have 2 different Ford F-250's (King Ranch and a Lariat) though. Don't hate me too much.

That's not really what I wanted to hear regarding the GFX. Being in the business, finding one of my husband's body shop friends to do the work won't be a problem, it's just more hassle than I was thinking about dealing with.

Here's the picture I was looking at when refering to the color of the GFXs on the IOM. Is this the argent gray color that they come from the factory as? Or is argent gray a flat color and this picture has ones that have been painted?

yes GFX come grey and are shipped seperate to ur dealer who paints and installs them. less likely damaged in transport that way. painting will be extra to ur dealer.

no issues with polished wheels. the trouble is a GM system glitch. if u modify ur order at anytime for any reason after ur dealer enters it into the system (1100 event code)......chances are the RS package will drop off. so if you change something, ask for a printout and just be sure everythings there. if you make no changes, and the order was entered correctly, you will have no issues.

6-8 weeks is unlikely. as a matter of fact, figure 6-8 weeks from the date your event code changes to 3300 (scheduled for production). it's the getting off 1100 event code (order entered at dealer) that's the grey area.

there are tons of factors involved and alot of them depend on ur dealer and how truthfull they are. the rest of is up to GM. but the one constant as of late is 6-8 weeks from event code 3300 til' delivery (so long as you don't end up in a quality hold).

do a search in the forum for "dealer allocations" and do some research as to how that works. then ask ur dealer to get a feel for when you should get off 1100. add that 1100 time, plus 4 weeks (u will be at 3000 for a month) plus the 6-8 weeks and that will be ur aproximate wait!

it IS worth the wait........the IOM is amazing! Congrats.......

Yes that is the color the GFX kit comes as from the factory.

the allocation isn't the issue (if he's not pulling ur leg). the issue is how many BUILD allocations is he getting and when. plus how many are folks are in front of you at the dealer.

example......he has 1 legit allocated order and u get it. yay! GM is pulling 1 order allocation per week from ur dealer........ok so far! but there's 3 order in front of u........that means that you'll be at 1100 for 4 weeks at least....boooo!

or, u could be the next allocated order at ur dealer which sounds great! but GM may not be taking ANY orders from them this month.

then of course, there's the hole dealer lying about allocations, which is happening.

My dealer has a 2SS that went 3000 on 4/20 was built 6/1. When it gets here is anyone's guess. To go from 3000 to 3800 took 5 weeks 3 days. Mine went 3000 on 5/27 orered on 3/13 wehope to get to 3800 by July 4:flag2:

Ugh, I can tell this wait is gonna kill me! Another Chevy dealership friend just told me that his orders have been getting picked up pretty quickly so that's good. But it takes a solid three weeks just for the car to arrive down here after shipping out of Canada. It's a good thing my husband loves me, 'cause I'm gonna test his sanity in the next couple of months!

I'm not at all worried about our dealer lying to us. He's been my husband's good friend for 20 years. Looooong before he became a dealer. He'll do what he can and other than that, I guess we'll just wait. But, I'm far from being the only person impatiently waiting.
