SS Tire Tread Direction

I just noticed that the tread direction on the left side of my car does not match the tread direction on the right side of my car. Are these tires directional? Even if they aren't, shouldn't they be facing the same direction?

They are directional. They say somewhere "This Side Out" (or something like that) and should also indicate which direction they're supposed to rotate.

They are designed to be mounted with one side of the tire facing out, this is becoming a common design on newer tires, they tend to put the beefier tread blocks on the inside, and the 'bad weather' blocks on the outside.

"This side out" has nothing to do with rotational directon, it simply indicates which side of the tread should face the outside of the car. My 350Z Bridgestone Potenzas are labeled "outside", but no rotation direction is indicated. I believe most of today's radials can be safely rotated in both directions, although rotating side-to-side offers little benefit, and front to rear on the Camaro is not possible with the different tire sizes.

All the tires say outside on them, but it just seems like they took tires meant for one side and used them on the other as well so the tread faces the opposite direction. Can anyone confirm that their cars have the same?

I stand corrected, they are not "directional" but must be mounted with the correct side out.

Okay, so with that, can someone do me a huge favor just to put my mind at ease. Check your tread direction on both sides of your car and let me know if they face opposite directions.

Thanks in advance.

Good question. It would appear that even though they have an assymetrical tread pattern, the tires are not directional. At least the way GM is using them. If they are not directional, then you can at least rotate them side to side.

I sent a request for clarification through Pirelli's website so we'll see if they ever respond.

Great pic, rolnslo, although I don't see any advantage to rotating side to side, maybe the fronts, but why not just get it aligned which will actually stop the irregular wear....or am I missing something?
