Uh oh, here comes the all-mighty golf cart, Camaros and Mustangs get out of the way!

Just wanted to share this with everyone.
And where will we be able to drive our camaros with all the new infrastructure specifically built for these golf carts?

That car/plane thing is an idea that will never be popular. People can't drive on the ground. If they have problems on the ground now, what makes you think they can fly?
Future cars are scary. They will require less and less driver input as the years go on. As a car enthusiast, this makes me puke.

So they're saying your car could potentially monitor suspension activity to report on what roads need to be repaired. I guess we should prepare for a "Demolition Man" style citation machine in our center consoles that will give us speeding tickets automatically.

Can't wait for the day to come when you get a ticket for being behind the wheel of your own car instead of letting it drive itself...

I don't mind it in big city driving. I welcome it. Allows me to multitask. On a business trip, this is helpful.

If anyone is a muscle car fan, you would not only welcome cars like this but ask everyone to buy them. Why? More of these = better chace we can have muscle cars.

Indeed! And how will they organize the traffic? I thought Highways were high enough

Most countries are still in progress of constructing roads and highways. I dont see how any Government can afford to wipe out and reconstruct new means of transportation in a few decades.

The first step is to allow vehicles to communicate with each other. I'm the operations lead for the Connected Vehicle Test Bed located in Novi, MI. We have 50 plus road side units that communicate with devices on the vehicles. There is a safety pilot test being run in Ann Arbor involving over 2800 vehicles. The data will allow NHTSA to determine if they need to mandate the inclusion of DSRC related devices in vehicles for safety. 802.11p is the wireless standard being used, and the vehicle specific messages are defined in J2735.

Its not far off!

In my opinion, tech is great, but we are applying tech that makes cars 'safer' because we can't drive. In other words, we are OK with putting less and less skilled drivers behind the wheel, because the car will 'keep them safe'. Accepting a lack of skill doesn't seem "safe" to me

wait, what? You're saying that proving to car makers that there's less of a market for muscle cars means they will make more muscle cars

Logic check, please, table one

Nah. Think about it.

I'm talking big cities with conjestic traffic e.g. New york. Instead of big cars in those cities wasting gas and bringing up gas demand, put puny gas siping things in there for transportation. Gas demand drops.

Suburbians and town folk will still buy trucks and muscle cars.

I'm thinking balance.

I think that risk is lower than being hit head on by a drunk driver. Will it be perfect, probably not. But I think the potential life savings is considerable. No more distracted drivers, drunk drivers, elderly, inexperienced, speeders etc. Lower insurance perhaps? Lower unpaid medical bills due to fewer accidents?
