Supercharging an Automatic.....big PITA???

I'm asking because I want to cover all the bases. I just found a 2012 cyber gray Camaro 2SS convertible on autotrader.ca. I've always wanted a convertible and this would be a fun weekend car!! I have a red Maggie that will be going on my Camaro in the spring. I have a 2010 2SS 6spd manual that I know is a straight forward install. What else would I need? I won't be running 1/4 mile or beating the shit out of it. Will the stock tranny hold up? I would be all over this IF it was a manual .

Should be fine. Friend has been pushing 10psi through a l99 auto, no other mods. Makes 680rwhp and beat on all the time. No issues at all.

Have close to 1k rwhp through my auto and after 2k miles it started to slip between 3-4 gear.. I think these trannys are under rated. However I am swapping it out for a 4L80..

I will add I run the piss out of it every time it leaves the garage!

Yeah you probably wana stay under 700 rwhp on a stock tranny. You shouldn't be surprised 1000rwhp is tearing it up

I'm about to SC my auto . It will run fine just my advice keep it under 700 rwhp

Thanks everyone for the advice/opinions. I think I'm more concerned about getting a bad convertible top than having a S/C L99.

Very valid concern. Be sure to check it thoroughly!

You will be beyond the safe limits of the stock motor before you reach the limit of the trans. This is the strongest overdrive auto GM has ever put in a Camaro besides the ZL1. A good trans tune and tranny cooler should be all that is needed. With a good trans tune, converter and cooler the stock 6L80E has gone high 9's low 10's. I have been very impressed with how well this trans has lived with alot of power. My 4L60E in my 4th gen gave up with only bolt ons. A good trans tune is key to making the 6L80E live. It is very under rated indeed.

AWESOME! Nice to hear that the tranny's are standing up to more power than I'll ever want. I emailed the dealership and said I wanted to know the build date before I went any further. Never thought I would consider trading my 2010 SS, but I've always wanted a convertible.

Turbo ?

With a Whipple @9psi plus long tubes and rotofab intake is only making 505 to the wheels
Several vendors claimed the Whipple alone would put out around 530 , but when I contacted Whipple directly I was told 460 is closer to the # for stock L99.
