I tend to believe the people that say they prefer the auto bc there foot gets tired and the paddle shifters are the same are the ones who haven't ever learned or aren't good with a manual. Bc I have driven both and the paddles aren't the same there is a lag and there is nothing like popping a clutch and burning rubber. I prefer a manual in my muscle cars. Plus I would take the Ls3 over the l99 anytime.

Bingo!!!

When the car refuses to get in step with what you want it to do, it feels like you're always arguing with it over who's the boss. That takes away a lot of the fun, regardless of the performance that you might be able to beat it into giving up.

Well ya tend to be wrong there pal.. I can drive manual very good, I would consider myself as good as any guy out there, maybe with the exception of some professional drivers but never the less believe me I can drive.
I've owned 8 muscle cars in my time and everyone of then was standard until this one.
I know your one of those guys that think your just awesome cause you drive standard and auto owners are a joke because I use to share the same thoughts....but believe me once you graduate out of your pee pee diapers you'll realize shifting gets old.
By the way I have ZERO Lag, even stock I had none, so again something you tend to believe is wrong and as far as burning tires, oh yeah baby!!!
I'm sure you'll feel the need to reply back and defend your ignorance so let's have at it.

Lag is always there in any automatic transmission simply because it takes a finite amount of time to for the hydraulics to fill/empty the appropriate actuators to accomplish the shift. It may be fast enough in some cases to where some, many - maybe even most - drivers either don't notice it or have adapted to its timing, but it's still there.

It's not really any different than the time it takes to shift a manual transmission, except that since you're working the MT shift lever and clutch pedal the whole time that the manual tranny shift is taking place it doesn't feel like you're waiting for something to happen. Perception is reality.

I'm 65, my wife is a couple years younger, and neither of us is anywhere near ready for a two-pedal car (and no, we don't have 'Depends' on our shopping list, either ). After 40+ continuous years of owning only MT cars, it hasn't gotten the least bit old for either of us. It's just the way some cars work.

Always had manuals in my sports cars/toys, and always had automatics for my daily drivers.

Keywords being NONE THAT I CAN FEEL. All automatics lag, whether or not you feel it is the thing. It's not like our cars are equipped with Dual Clutch Semi-Automatic Transmissions that shift in hundredths or thousands of a second.

This is a good rule to live by, always did this myself and when i buy another toy it will probably be stick as a car show/weekend type car just like all my other cars were. But this one I am trying to make more of a daily driver and enjoy it. That was ultimitely the final desicion in making my purchase of the L99. Sick of just keeping them in the garage putting only a couple thousand miles a year. Time to drive!! With the exception of snow of course.

I like your style though!

You clearly do or you wouldn't be arguing so much against the fact that all torque converter autos have lag

Tune your car, then you'll notice there is shifting lag stock... LOL

No, the key words are "40+" and "owning".

"Only" is just a consequence of not buying and having to live with something we don't care for, something we learned that a long time ago.

We drove and I owned three AT cars before that, we've rented a few cars from time to time (most, but not all with AT), and I drove a shuttle service/parts chasing minivan for one of the local Chevy dealers for about a year between engineering positions. So let's just say I'm a bit more familiar with AT behavior and "feel" than our car ownership history suggests.

I've always noticed at least a little lag, even when the system pressures were higher than necessary for "normal driving".

To each his own Sir, To each his own!!
I'm glad your loving your manuals and I too love them as well. I am in no way a hater of standard, I am simply saying AUTO rocks in it's own ways as well..
I will admit that shifting is more exciting in the actual overall drive experience but right now the auto is working for me and the paddles are adequate.
