jump starting car

Has anyone had an issue with trying to jump or charge the battery from the + post under the hood? I have tried several times, and have had no luck, but if I go directly to the battery it works just as it should. Am I missing something here, isnt that the purpose of the post so that you dont need to get into the trunk? I hook the negative to the lug on the cylinder head.

their is a post for the negative cable on the inside of the fender next to positive one. it is a little rod sticking out. try that one since you might not be getting a good ground on the head....

brian68rs,

1. Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12-volt battery with a negative ground system.

2. Position the two vehicles so that they are not touching.

3. Set the parking brake firmly. Vehicles with an automatic transmission should be in P (Park).

4. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF and switch off all lights and accessories in both vehicles, except the hazard warning flashers if needed.

5. Connect one end of the red positive (+) cable to the jump start positive (+) post (A).

6. Connect the other end of the red positive (+) cable to the positive (+) terminal of the good battery (B).

7. Connect one end of the black negative () cable to the negative () terminal of the good battery (C).

8. Connect the other end of the black negative () cable to the negative () post (D).

9. Start the engine in the vehicle with the good battery and run the engine at idle speed for at least four minutes.

10. Try to start the vehicle that had the dead battery. If it will not start after a few tries, it probably needs service.

These are all steps in the owner’s manual beginning on page 10-89.

You may want to take it to the dealership to run the codes in order to see what the malfunction was.
