Possible upgrade from mylink to NAV?

I purchased my ZL1 off a local lot, it had everything I wanted except the NAV!! I added an aftermarket amp in place of the Boston amp located in front of the drivers side rear tail lights. In addition, I added another single channel amp for a 10" subwoofer! All the hard wiring and connections I used were from ********.com.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how easy, or hard it will be to upgrade from the stock 'MyLink' to the included GM NAV.
I know that this is about an $800 upgrade when the car is ordered.

In the mean time, my radio has gone out on me, it just locked up, and would never come back on. One day, it just stopped working, it was stuck on one certain channel, and it was on a very low volume. Brought it to the dealer today, and they said that the touch screen panel is the problem and it needs to be replaced!

Just curious if anyone knows if the dealer can just order the NAV included radio? Or would it also include a lot of other modules, etc... to update to that radio??? Hope I explained this good enough. My main question in this whole thread is, is it feasible for the dealer to replace the radio included with the car, with the radio that comes with the NAV!! & What it might cost, over the $800 on the sticker!!!

thanks

This has been an ongoing subject and I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that a 60,000 dollar car didn't come equipped with it in the first place. If I'd have known it didn't come with it, I would have ordered my car with it. I'm sure though that the dealer could order and swap out the unit should you decide to go this way.. I'm certain it's quite easy to do. Find the right release pins and pull the old one out, disconnect the wire harness and install the new one.

the issue you will have is the radio bezel/controls are differenent as well. There may also be a GPS antenna for the nav itself that you don't have in the car.

I personally think it can be done I am just not sure if the dealer is going to be good enough to pull it off or you would want to pay them $80-90an hour to figure out.

it would require you to shell out extra $$$ for sure.

Again, that thread is a waste. There is no mention of Navi for what they are doing.

It illustrates the issues at hand though. Theses are not just differet head units. The contol bezels themselves are differet part numbers as well.

You also have to to remember the nav units were all alocated to production for a wile. Have you even priced or checked availability of the nav?

Nobody has done this yet it is not a one part number plug and play swap. It will be way more than an aftermarket unit.

2SSRS picked up a Nav head unit from his dealer earlier today.

Not sure what issue at hand you are referring to. As I see it, he is swapping out the older style 2010-2011 model year units for this newer 2012-2013 style MyLink.

I asked when I got mine, the answer was if car is not wired for NAV from factory the the NAV unit can't be substituted.

the issue at hand is that there are muliple part number and quite a bit of cost.

the controls/bezel is around $600 alone. I don't even know what the price of the nav head unit is by itself most likely 1k+

then there is most likely a separte GPS antenna.

So in your mind it might be big difference but in reality it is proabably a pretty similar swap part number wise.

might not be plug and play but it can be done. there is not way this can't be done. it is a head unit. they both have pinouts and take the same singnals, amplifier, etc

I don't think it will make finacial sense right now though. there is not cheap supply for the parts.

this part will 100% be required as it has the NAV button on it.

ac controls /bezel for nave and headted seats 22919385 $612

I can't find price of the nav. $???? although it is supposed to be out

Then it boils down to if the GPS antena for the nav is in the facotry shark fin for all cars or you need to do mods there as well. looks like this system and the sat radio are kind of in comon on this model.

in my mind for a 2013 swap this would be the path. if the nav price is not throught he roof and you could sell the mylink and ac controls form the 2013 to someone with a 2012 for a decent price it may pencil out as feasable.

I have checked my internal resources and unfortunately, there is no upgrade currently available to obtain navigation.

I wish I could be the bearer of better news in this instance.

I looked hard into the NAV upgrade so I could order my 13 sooner. Well I found out it would not be worth doing and not all options would work.
I ended up just waiting to get a NAV car and happy I did.
The NAV option is factory only.
