I would retire. My wife and I would travel the world. I would have lots of cars, including one of each gen Camaro. Plus lots of investing and giving to family.

The nice thing when you're ridiculously affluent is you can add to or change your lineup anytime... like swapping hot wheels cars.

My expanded 12 car garage will have this:

STOP WORKING!
get a good financial planner & lawyer
pay off everyting.
protect beyond sufficient $ for lifetime care/comfort
Put aside some $ for my kids
buy a little bigger house & much bigger garage
buy a ZL1, every mod wanted for current Camaros & a few older Camaros
travel & have fun!
Help some charities

That's a good start.

If I won the current Powerball jackpot:

1. Sign the back of the ticket.

2. Contact a good lawyer and investment team; set up living trust.

3. Establish permanent fund to perpetually pay my mortgage, taxes, insurance and utilities on my house. I'd keep the house for good time's sake. Toward this thinking, I would stipulate to the trust that any durable asset I (oops, I mean the trust) acquired be treated the same way; there must be funds in place to continue its operation, maintenance and repair.

4. Buy land. They're not making any more. Particular attention paid to land with potential mineral rights, exceptional views, great climate and/or solitude. Perhaps some of each.

5. Set up huge fund within the trust to provide for most potential health issues and eventual long-term care, should it become necessary.

6. Quit my job, dress as a regular person and buy things for people in line in front of me, hand out small sums of money to random people, help those I see fit to help, visit veterans in V.A. hospitals and kids in childrens' hospitals, and fund little causes I feel drawn toward.

7. Learn to play saxophone. And piano. And get better at playing drums.

8. Try to relearn how to be a kid.

9. Try to make sure my family and friends never find out. Good things would just 'happen' to them.

10. Fly a kite once in a while. I like kites. But mine would go really high and dispense money once no one could tell it was happening.

Oh, you'll already be doing that, and it goes to a "good cause." You'll pay taxes.

I think it's kinda funny how some of you guys think 25M is gonna let you live like a millionaire and never work again. Let's say you have 40 years to live. If you expect to maintain a huge house, garage, a dozen cars AND give a pile away to family/charity, you better get a high paying job or make some very fruitful investments. 25M is not that much. In 40 years it will be worth even less.

Don't forget you have to pay taxes on that as well

Now. What would I do?

I'd pay off the rest of my mortgage, give the house to my folks so they have a second home closer to their kids and grandkids.
Pay off my brothers house
Buy dad and bro a car of their choosing.
Build a decent house on an acreage, nothing too crazy, just a really nice 2000 sqft bungalow.
Get a new Sierra when it comes out next fall, and have a new sports car every year or two. No need for more than that. I'll prob never buy another camaro i want to savor every flavor of auto
Then just go on a couple trips a year and take a job in the city.
Oh. And spend a lot of time working on an 72 911 that I will be racing every chance I get. So I guess I'd have two cars

So after all that I'd be down to about 22M. The rest I would just up my annual charity donations and make sure my nephews and future children had an education and a decent car at 16

Jim, the original title of the post was "What Would YOU Do If YOU won The Lottery?" By that I take it to mean The Powerball, which is projected to be over $400,000,000 by the time the next drawing takes place. I'd also take it to mean that if "I" won, no one else did, although that's open to interpretation.

Conservatively figure half is lost to taxes. I'm still +$200M. Now, how does my plan sound?

John, your "plan" was one of the few I agree with. Setting up trusts to insure money is there when you need it is prob one of the things I'd do as well.

I read the first post how the op said he would get 25M and I commented on the other posters who talked about giving 3 halfs away and buying a stable of

200M is a different animal

Oh and I wouldn't pay taxes, eh.
