The zl1 grille is about 1100 fully assembled not painted. I'm sure you could get yours fixed for less. But if they decided to repainted the whole bumper you could do the t3 ports for 300 something. I'm in the middle of the same deal, fender bender, my fault, and now weighing my options on coming out of it with something better. Just wish the zl1 front end wasn't so expensive. Actually it's the lighting that knocks the price up.

I have been a member here for more than 4 years and I am rarely cinical of people's comments but everyone has pet peeves and one of mine is the use of the word accident.
I work in quality assurance in heavy industrial settings. Oil refineries, which are some of the most dangerous work sights. I work closely with the safety department. I was just making the point that texting and driving or looking at your phone receiving a text resulting in your car contacting another is an avoidable "incident", NOT an "accident". If it is caused by a person's negligence, it is an incident. Call it what it really is. I have had my share of broken bones and injuries including a broken back and none of them were an accident. They were all the result of bad decisions by myself or others and hardly accidents. Not a grammatical thing. It's a definition thing!!! I know what year it is, I am guessing I've made couple more trips around the sun than many on here. I'm not trying to flame anyone or be a hardass. I apologize if it sounds like that but negligent behavior while driving or any place else resulting in damage, injury or death is no accident. People don't need to chill. People need to open their eyes and be responsible for their behavior that causes incidents that are so easily passed off as "accidents." While doing some work on a crane over 8 years ago, I joked with a fellow superintendent to catch me if I fall. I knew there was risk in what I was doing, yet I made the decision to continue. 10 seconds later I was on the ground after falling 4 1/2 feet, waiting for an ambulance for the first time in my life, not knowing how bad I was hurt or if I would walk out of the hospital whenever I got through this. Mistake? Yes. Stupid? Yes. Accident? Hell no!!! I don't care if you think I am an ass or if anyone else does for that matter. What I do care is that maybe someone reads this and realizes risky behavior isn't worth it. That text message isn't as important as an innocent person's health or life. I see so many of these threads about how they had an accident because of something that distrated them. I've been in and seen many car wrecks and not one was an accident.Enough of my rant. That's all I have to say. I don't want to be the reason your thread gets locked.

I wasn't texting. My phone was in my cup holder, I heard it go off and looked down. I was going to get my daughter at school, for some reason I thought it might be the ex-wife about something with our daughter -- I was at a stop light and the cars in front of me stopped after going.
Again -- my fault. I don't disagree. I've been driving 25 years and never was a fault for an accident. It was a stupid mistake, taking my eyes off the road. Thankfully it was at 10 mph. |

Wow. Sorry for the peeps giving you a hard time. Chit happens and you owned up to it. That should be all that matters, along with the lesson learned.
Now back to the OP's question. If your bumper is wrinkled you will most likely need a new bumper cover. If the crush absorbers are ok then it's probably around $1000 maybe a little more.

Reminds me of about two months ago. I was driving my Monte Carlo SS and was stuck in traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The guy behind me, I had noticed was talking on the phone, texting, eating all throughout the period of being behind me. He hit me not once, but twice from looking at his phone or eating is food and taking his foot off the brake. No damage, either times, since he was literally just rolling two feet or so. But just stupidity.

If you took your eyes off the road to read a text, that is the very definition of texting and driving. It's fortunate that no real harm was done. This is the event to let you know that no text is worth hurting someone. Don't do it. Ever.
A couple of years ago, somebody following me in traffic felt the need to look at their phone. They were a at least a hundred yards beck, so I guess they though it was ok. Well, they didn't count on traffic coming to an unexpected stop. I was fully stopped in my Corvette. They looked up about 50 feet behind me and slammed on the brakes. They still hit me hard enough to shove me into the stopped car in front of me. Their car was destroye. The combination of the collision and their airbag deployment shattered their windshield and showered me with broken glass as my convertible top was down. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, be he did $20,000 damage to my car in addition to totaling his. All of the financial dust still isn't settled after two years. I hope the message on his phone was worth it. And as for whether this counts as an accident or not, the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary has multiple definitions of accident. One of the, implies and unfortunate and unintended event. Another specifically applies to liability in the case where there is no negligence. The event that started this thread is an accident by the first definition, but not the second. |
