Condensation inside Car
Hello All,
We just recently started getting winter weather here in Southern California ( although that may be summer weather to some of you ).I would say the temperature is getting as low as the high 30's low 40's. The past week or so i have noticed condensation on the inside of my windshield when getting into my vehichle, and this morning noticed a little bit on the inside of the plastic face of the radio consol. I have tried running water over the car to see if any of the windows are leaking but have not had any luck finding either a leak or wetspot on the carpets. All logic tells me that this is not supposed to happen, but i wanted to touch base with all of you to see if this is a common problem or if it is something i should worry about? if it is common, where should i look first, if the issue is small id like to fix it without bringing it into the dealership. All of your help and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Robert |

Inside of the windshield? Perfectly common, as long as it goes away with a couple minutes of defrost air blowing on it. Inside the radio display? I don't know if it's common (I've never had that), but it is certainly not a good thing... moisture inside there can be highly problematic...

Several others have reported condensation inside the radio face. I don't recall what the issue/resolution was though. Search the forums, you may find the threads.

I think I got condensation in the radio face one time from having the a/c vent aimed down at it on cold for a long time.
I may be mistaken, but I think thats why mine fogged up once |

My windshield condensates BAD. Like the defroster can't clear it. However our extreme climate changes account for it here. We can see a massive swing from AM to PM. It's only happened a few times. I get it in a very minor manner in my radio display occasionally.

Sometimes the cabin air filters can get pretty gross and moldy. This might feed near the blower motor and cause this?

Happens when I sit by the water at the Beach all the time.
Rear window takes longest to clear.

Southern Oregon checking in, about 55 here today and sunny. Figured good day to let the top down, run it hard and then wash and put away for awhile. I am seeing some condensation in my front lights, the plastic in front of the halos and halogens. Lights work okay but a bit disconcerting, and here is the "whacky" part....the condensation was there before I started washing the car. As someone else said, you may want to look at the other forum strings, I do remember some folks with condensation on their radio face. Good luck, please let us know how it turns out! Best regards, Tony

is yours a convertible or hard top... you didn't mention.
also do you turn the vehicle off with the defroster vents open? i.e. had the defroster on and turned the vehicle off without turning the HVAC fan to the off mode? while it isn't supposed to happen (the vent should close with the vehicle power is off) it is possible the vent is staying open allowing the moisture into the vehicle, I've had that as an ongoing problem in my mother 2003 DTS, if she uses the bi-level, floor or dash vents no issue, if she parks the car with the dash defroster as the last area selected then there is condensation on the windshield the next morning. seems to be an issue with the blend door for the defroster not closing when the vehicle is powered off, and being it is nearly $1000 to rip out half the dash to fix it, she just opts to make sure the selector is on dash or floor before turning off the car.

Hello all,
Appreciating all of the input. My car is a hardtop, and now that I'm thinking about it I do keep my settings on the defroster mode when turning the vehicle off. Which I just started doing do to the weather. I'm gonna try turning it off on a different setting to see if that fixes this issue. I have tried searching the forum a few times with no luck, I will keep searching to see if I can find it and will try changing my settings to see if it fixes my issue. Thanks again for all the help. |

I noticed this issue on my rear windshield the past 3-4 days. No leaks on the window either. I poured water on it and have also washed it with no water getting inside. Mine is a hard top. I always make sure to change my air back to the face only option and make sure it blows air at me and the defrost door is closed before shutting the car off.
