What does porting mean on a throtle body?

I'va searched and searched and nowhere can I find a description of porting a throtle body. What is so special about a ported TB? Seems to me that it is larger internal diameter TB. Is that right? Then why the hell the term "ported". What does ported mean?

Porting anything is the process of reshaping to enhance fluid dynamics weither it be cylinder heads, intakes, throttle bodys or even oil pumps.

The inner throat of the throttle bodies is not a straight thru round tube, but an uneven design with dips and humps. The first modification is to straighten and smooth these imperfections as much as possible. Then a pattern is cut into the surface (think golf ball). The texture breaks surface tension and allows the intake air to flow equally in the center as it does around the sides. The result is increased velocity which translates into improved throttle response and power.
