5.0 mustang owner amits defeat - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So yesterday I got to my grandparents house (less then favorable reasons) and my uncle is there with a 2013 5.0 mustang. So what do I do? I talk shit. After a hour or so of harassment he says let's race for slip's. I laugh and say " you sure". But my dad, his brother, step in and says no. Fast forward to today, were going out to dinner and offer to take my uncle for a ride. On the way he looks at me after I pass a car and says " I glad we didn't race. You would of had me." I didn't even say anything as I was hurting from the big ass smile I had.

Figured I would share my "defeat" of a 5.0 without even racing for you guys

Personally I wouldn't celebrate a win by forfeit. LOL!

Those 5.0s are formidable opponents and very closely matched with our cars... However, I must admit that I loved the look on the guys face when my LS3 started walkin his 5.0 Mustang.

He was so sure I wouldn't even hang with him, to the point of being VERY kocky and borderline disrespectful, but his smug look quickly turned to shock as I pulled ahead, and he accused me of not being stock. I assured him that I was, (besides a muffler delete) and then asked him to "take it easy on those bowties"!

He was visably upset.

This, on a short PRIVATE, paved surface of course. I made him, humble!

Um, if I remember right, according to a couple major publications that new Mustang is actually a bit faster than the Camaro.

There are just as many who tested them both and showed the LS3 is slightly faster, including Car and Driver. So they are really are closely matched and depends on the driver really. Epic matchup!

Yeah, the cars are almost perfectly matched, so it almost always comes down to a driver's race....which if you really think about, is worth more bragging rights than if the difference were the cars.

Stock for stock 5.0s are faster. For equal mods they are faster too. But really that is not a big deal. Just enjoy your Camaro. OP glad you avoided street racing.

Depends on the driver.

Stock for stock, with a half decent driver a 5.0 should handle an SS. Hard for the LS3/L99 to make up the weight difference with the power being so similar. Should be close for an LS3, but the 5.0 should take it.

Always nice to dream though.....
