Factory Stripes?
So I placed an order for a camaro and I ordered the rally stripe package along with it. Now Ive been going through these forums and am reading that the stripes are made of vinyl and applied like a decal? Is this true or am I totally confused here.
If it is true, I would probably want to get the stripes painted on by a third party. For anyone that has done that, what is a ballpark figure to add painted rally stripes? Thanks |

My Rally Yellow 2SSRS was built 3/26, stripes arrived 2 weeks later, car arrived 6/8 and the dealer misplaced my stripes, reordered, got them Monday, found the original set when the new ones arrived. Sinse Chevy installs very few decals/stripes, the sent my car to a ford dealer, they install a couple of sets a week on mustangs. They messed them up, spent 3 hours and never got the 1st one on. Now they're looking for another shop. I may have a custom set put on. If I do, my dealer will give me a new set and $100Not sure what I'll do.

Vinyl stripes are very common in the industry. If you go paint, depending on who you use and what you do, it will run from $1500 to $2500 for a good paint job. I had a quote for $800 but he wanted to come and do it in my driveway. LOL!!!

Don't get the decal stripes they are a waste of money. I did and they were factory installed with pin holes in them where they deflated blisters. Wasted that money and then had them painted on by a Custom painter for $1300 he did a great job as most I have seen on this site..

Well thats a bummer, since I havent seen one with factory stripes in person yet, are those people who did get the factory stripes happy with them? I'm kinda torn on what I should do here. 470 for the dealer installed option is pretty cheap, on the other hand im sure it would look much better painted for 1500+ and you wouldnt have to worry about it peeling off or arriving with any defects. Thoughts?

My dealers body shop is going to paint mine and will do 3 coats of clear over the top feathering the edges after each coat to get a nice smooth flat finish. Rear stripes rolled over the spoiler. $1000-$1200. They do nice work.

To me satin looks like vinyl while paint looks more like a show car. Vinyl is cheap compared to paint but vinyl has expansion/contraction issues over time with temperature extremes. Vinyl also has the issue of wax tending to get stuck in the edge and you can see the white residue; hard to clean it out too.
Paint is more expensive but done right it looks like it was done at the factory, and there's no problem with expand/contract or waxing/polishing. Look at some of the forum member pics who've had theirs painted and you can see how great it looks. I'd say go painted gloss.
