pulley squeak/whistle
Started up my car and there was a whistle like sound coming from the engine. Opened it up and is seems like it is coming from the pulley on the top right behind the CAI tube? does it need to be changed out, belt tension seems okay? I don't have a problem getting under the hood but I just need to know what to do
Thanks |

You could always us a piece of wood, like a dowel or something you can put to your ear, put it on the little piece of metal behind the pulley and see if the noise is amplified or not. be careful not to hit the pulley while its running. (or you can but a stethoscope from a auto parts store. Does the noise go away after the car is warmed up?

I had a weird sound today,it was like a soft bearing noise coming from what i think is the top pulley, by the throttle body,is this what you are hearing?

I'm hearing this on mine too! I took the air intake tube off the throttle body. Then replaced it and tightened everything back down. The whistle is still there. I checked to see if it was coming from the by pass on the supercharger and it is not. It's running strong.

Every time I worked on a Camaro or any GM vehicle that was fairly new that had a belt squeal, it was all related to the AC stretch style belt.

mine did this about 1000 miles ago and i thought it was water pump related.. dealership just changed th ebelt and it went away...then the other day the belt squeak came back and i feel like its the idler pulley..but mine gos away after its warmed up..either way it still annoys me because it never did it before..any thoughts?

If the belt is coming off the pulley that frequently. The pulleys are not in line! That's the first thing they should be checking.

When mine made a noise, it turned out to be my power steering fluid was low.
