I believe that is true. You should learn and be able to handle the power of your car, know how it reacts. If you are scared of the tires breaking loose you are in the wrong car.

tire tech and handling is way different than back then.
traction limits are alot higher but less forgiving.
I remember doing brodies all day long in the old bias ply 50 series in my pontiac with a 400 and posi, nowadays you do that with some tires and they will hook hard and toss ya into the weeds.

i'm surprised you didn't try it out back then. i know i would if i just found an extra 50hp instantly like that.

come to think of it, i kinda did when i strapped the maggie on... the only thing that tamed me down was the thought of replacing tires

I did a lot of things back in the 70's in a '68 Camaro SS 396. 400BHP and 700 lbs less on bias tires. Now with 450 to the wheels I still haven't tried some of what I did back then. Never wore a seatbelt back then either.

They couldn't sell these cars without TC. Too many people would kill themselves. Same for ABS brakes. I had the ABS working last night in my Colorado. Freezing drizzle, did good till I got in front of the salt trucks. Quickly came up on a jacknifed semi taking up 2 1/2 lanes on the toll road. ABS helped me get down to 25 mph and still slid around some on a slope. Went a little slower the rest of the way home.

Did you do all that on the grass ?

power is there. they are heavy and equipped with great rubber for stock power. i really never had traction problem on nice hot days. when its cold its different story.

I put my Perelli's through hell the last month they were on my car. New tires now, no need to burn them up. But it is fun to be rolling down the street and just stomp on the gas and kick it side ways, so I almost miss my old wore out Perelli's.

Are you drunk or what? Turn off traction and stabilitrack and you can spin the tires all day long. At least I can on my SS.

I may be being a bit too sensible here, but isn't burning out the tyres about as much fun as screwing up a bunch of $20 notes, and setting fire to them?

Dude, I did do no traction control allot on the L99, the LS3 is an entirely different beast. My Kami will get crazy quickly with out traction control and even with it on when I WOT in 1st traction control lights on dash and HUD flashing all the time. The shift to second will also be flashing if running her hard 1st to 2nd.

Yeah, turning all the nannies off and playing around makes for an interesting ride. Hell, if its cold outside and you have all the nannies on it still can get away from you

The only thing damaged was my ego because I ended up facing the wrong way on the entrance ramp front bumper to front bumper of a Mustang GT!. I felt like a fool but the guy in the Mustang rolled down his window and asked if I needed any help. I told him everything was cool, then he said "the Camaro SS sure had a lot of power".
Again, if you can't control the power you have, you need a lesser car. Driving a v8 in the rain and not realizing that the rain is dangerous to drive your car fast in indicates you do not know how to handle the power you have. Anyone with a fast car should know WOT and rain don't mix.
