I hate the STi concept... The second I saw it i thought of a new Civic hatch with an aftermarket hood.

This 7tune is interesting and has a shot to be the new 'tuner' car if they don't ugly it up.

X20000. I hate to be a brand snob, but Toyota just really annoys me. They're overrated, their reliability is pretty poor, and they are the antithesis of driver-oriented. Still, this also isn't that good for Subaru, since their entire branding is built upon AWD. Now if Honda was developing something like this, I'd have more faith in it. Honda still knows small, quick, and enthusiast oriented.

You think Honda knows more about enthusiast cars than Subaru (STi) and Toyota (supra) ??

I think this car has the potential to be really really great. The toyota version of this car is the only one mentioned to be in the 20k region, so if this is the next STi expect it to be low 30's. Likely get the Boxer engine (which is a great engine btw) and hopefully they dont kill it with ugly and weight.

Subaru has done alot of good with the recent STi... if your not a performance driver. Its more comfortable, better equiped and has higher quality materials. But they took alot of shit from just about everyone who drove the car because its slower and softer than the old STi. This could be their anwser for the purists, and if it is, expect it to be a good effort.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

The article this came from quoted a curb weight of around 2600lbs

This is the car the toyota is supposed to be taking design cues from...

Doubt it, i think the toyota will look like a LF-A, and the STi like impreza coupe concept

Mostly applicable to more recent years. Toyota brand has no exciting cars, and the only performance car in the entire company is the IS-F, and all they did was put in a bigger engine and remove the suspension. The thing with Toyotas, no matter how good they look on paper, they're soulless. There is no connection with the driver. You get the impression the car was designed to be driven by remote control, or more likely just be put into a video game. Now Subaru is of course better in this regard, but as you acknowledged the latest STI is really watered down. Yes the boxer engine is great and will probably be this car's best feature if it is used, but it is a big assumption to think this will be a very driver-oriented car. It may put out all the right numbers, but Toyota falls flat when it comes to man-machine communication and emotion. And Honda has a long history of enthusiast cars. Prelude, S2000, Integra, CRX, Civic Si, etc.

Not sure if id say the if any car on your list aside from the S2000 was really very involving... id say the new STi is more involving than any of those cars to be honest.

If subaru is involved, and if it really comes out as an STi, and its only going to be only 2600lbs, its going to be a hell of a drivers car.

However if it was Honda it would be a torqueless S2000 clone...lol

torque isn't everything when it comes to involving. There are so many different subjective variables...

Its going to end up with a boxer engine more likely than not. Usually those carry 300hp/300lbft.

On a 2600lb AWD car thats 0-60 in something ridiculous like 4.0-4.4

Yeah if that weight and power was accurate (even after a tune) the power to weight ration would be like 8.6 - pretty damn impressive.
