That's a good recipie.
Seeing that there are eggs in it I'm going to give a little lesson on eggs here lol I always limit the amount of egg yolks that I eat but not for the reasons most would think. Egg yolks are another food that gets a bad rap. Egg yolks contain some very important nutients as well as fat and cholesterol but note this, it has been proven that the dietary cholesterol in eggs does not effect the bodies cholesterol levels, also the fat in eggs are not trans fats and in fact half of it is monounsaturated(good) fat. The reason I limit yolks is this, let's crunch some numbers. 6 whole eggs= 450 cals 37.8 g protein 3.6 carbs 30 g fat 6 egg whites= 102 cals 21 g protein 1.8 carbs 0 fat 1 whole egg 5 whites 160 cals 23.8 g protein 2.1 carbs 5.0 g fat The macro nutients in the last choice is a much better choice, you could use more yolks but the benefit from the nutrients in eggs can be had with one or two yolks avoiding the added cals and fat. |

Cauliflower soup for dinner, so so good!
2 bags of frozen cauliflower (or cauli/broc mix) (200 cal) 2 or 3 small golden potatos peeled and cubed (roughly 230 cal) 3 cans of chick broth (60 cal) 4 cloves of garlic 1 onion 1/2c of Parmesan (40 cal) Turkey or ham (I used two turkey sausage links cause it was all we had 220 cal) 1/4c non fat milk with two table spoons of corn starch whisked (70 cal) Roughly 850 cal for the whole pot! Not bad considering it makes about 6-8 bowls! Cook onions and garlic with olive oil until onions are clear. Add in the broth and potatoes Five minutes later add cauliflower and cook until they are done. Use an emersion blender to blend the soup. Add the ham/turkey. Add whisk mix and bring to a boil while stirring then set back to low and let cook for 5-10mins. Add parmesan. Season with salt and garlic pepper. I usually add more garlic pepper to my bowl and garnish with a little sprinkle of Parmesan. Last edited by bossbunny; 01-04-2013 at 08:59 PM. |

My sister was diagnosed with celiac disease. It runs strongly in sisters. Based on symptom review we suspect our mother likely suffered with it. It may well had led to her heart disease (triple bypass), and the cancer that killed her. Based on my lifelong sysmtoms my doctor suspected it could be the case for me. I have tried being on & off gluten & am pretty well convinced I am gluten intollerant. I would just rather not subject myself to an intestinal biopsy to confirm what is very likely to be true. I feel much better, my skin is much better, my thinking is clearer............that is good enough for me. I also try to avoid added potassium in foods/drinks as it causes terrible intestinal problems for me. I avoid nitrites & try to keep my sodium intake low as my heart tends to beat rapidly (like my dad) and these worsen that. I take a blood pressure med for that (not for problems with my blood pressure). For me trying to be gluten free is not a fad thing. Oh, and I just plain don't like the taste of or trust artificial sweeteners.

Wow this forum was active. I just got back from a vacation at the beach. Rained most of the week, so my workouts suffered greatly. Back on track today!

Naturally occuring gluten is part of the protein in certain grains such as wheat barley etc. It can be removed, and processed and then is added to other foods low on protein or to aid as a binder or to help doe rise when baking. People who or intolerant have to be careful as it is added to foods that normally don't contain it naturally, usually processed foods like breads or even processed meats. |
