Dealer Allocations
Hey guys please help me keep my sanity.
I ordered a 2013 ZL1 on 12/21/12 at Stonebriar here in Frisco, TX with the understanding that they would have an allocation to order this car by the first of the year. Each day they seem no closer to knowing when they will have an allocation. I put down a non-refundable $500.00 deposit. They have yet to cash my check. I am seriously considering stopping payment and going somewhere else that can tell me for sure they have an allocation. What are your thoughts. Are they pulling my leg? Am I just wasting time and need to move on? I'm not even to the waiting period of 6 to 8 weeks because my order has not even been placed. What is holding me there is my preferred pricing which has shaved nearly 2 grand off of my final msrp after options were added. What would you do? I'm losing it! Show me some ZL1 love fellas! I do not believe there is a such thing as a "non-refundable deposit" in Texas.

That's what I was told. To kill time I made a color change to IOM and they asked for another 1500.00 on top of that nonrefundable if I did not take possession of the car. I guess it's their safety net. As long as they have not cashed it then it is refundable because i can just stop payment.

A dealership can place an order at anytime, they do not need an allocation to put an order in the system.
However, just because the order is in the system does not mean it will get picked up for production. If the dealership does not have an allocation to place the order gainst it will just sit in the system until they get one. From what I have gathered, allocations are distributed monthly. |

At this point, we are waiting for our "production guide"
number for ZL1 production for the balance of the year. Although we expect it soon, we don't know what day it's coming. Once that # is given, it will be a matter of waiting for it to become available to place an order against in our order cycle. Keep in mind, that ZL1 orders are not pulled on a weekly basis like the other Camaro's. They are given a specific week usually once a month for orders to be placed. It's tough to understand, but at this time, you might as well hold on until this guide # becomes available. |

Thanks Becky! I guess I'll stay put. He dropped his asking price for an additional deposit to $1000.00 total. I told him I would bring in another $500.00 once I had an order # for my vehicle to be.

It takes a while. I waited 6 months from order to delivery for mine with 1 person ahead of me (2012 rollover).

I got very lucky... Stonebriar called me when they received a ZL1 and A 1LE. Could not sell the wife on the ZL1, ended up taking the 1LE home. The dealership told me the same, $500 nonrefundable to order. The reason is if you order then cancel...someone else may miss out on their order. From what I'm told.
I have no complaints with the dealership. They also sold my friend his ZL1. |

I would suggest you check with Eric at Classic in Grapevine. I just received my ZL1 from him that was ordered in late October. It was an awesome buying experience. Also, I"ve had Classic either not ask for a deposit, or at worst, ask for arefundable deposit.

I dont understand why you dont find a dealer that has one in stock and negotiate? I thought supply and demand were starting to balance out?

I would also suggest putting deposits with a credit card not a check. That way if they fight it you can always go through your credit card company and make them fight it (I know from experience). Non-refundable does not exist and I'm sure another deal will give you preferred pricing.
Good Luck!
