l99 paddle shifting

does it hurt the engine to shift at higher RPMS? i know down shifting it will deny you if you try to shift down while speeding. depending on gear. but it does not shift for you when you redline. does it put wear and tear? or am i just better of in sport mode. i just love the sound of paddle shift

You will simply bounce off the rev limiter and fail to continue picking up speed.

You can shift at high RPM's though. I do.

I wouldn't do it all the time though. Needless rev limiter bumps.. If you prefer aggresive then wind it up to 4900k and hit the paddle. It has a lag so it won't actually shift until probably 5400 and your limiter is at 6200 if stock. So plenty good.

just shift as you do when driving a stick....i find that around 3000 rpm my car really starts to pull hard i dont come close to redlining ..i just bought it over christmas and the roads are gritting with sand....so my driving has been limited ..it is going away till spring but i to enjoy the paddle shift i find it lets me control the afm better by staying out of the 1800 to 2000 rpm range

3k is pretty low for the Op's question. Also unless you were picking up speed . Upshifts at 3k would easily drop you down out of the powerband. Op appears to want to be more aggressive and upshifts at 3k isn't at all.

yes but like i said the roads are a little gritty so it gets a little haywire i just wanted to have a few runs with it before i put it away when the roads are dry and the weather is nice i will be looking on here for info on how to drive it to its potential

You will be fine. It is pretty fail safe. It will not shift down into too low of a gear. It will not go beyond the rev limiter and that is before redline. It will also downshift for you when braking. Very poorly but, it will.

So, all you can possibly do wrong if you will is upshift at the wrong time depending on if you were really trying to move or just move along normally.

End result is. you will just use more fuel

1st & 2nd gear are BEAST.

No it will not hurt it... you can shift at 4000-5000 all day long with no worries of hurting anything
