The amount of legal advice given by those not qualified to do so is astonishing. Our firm represents several dealers in the area of the OP so I won't comment but to say most contract language is contingent on finalizing the financing. Meaning if the deal falls through on the finance side, you must return the car.

Oops, I mistook the OP for someone else posting in the thread. We don't represent any dealerships in TX.

Update: goods news, I was able to get financing from a different bank, didn't have to put another dime down and actually got a slightly better interest rate.

I told the dealer if he couldn't make the deal as agreed to, he could have his car back just fine. I was pretty sure he had more to lose than I did considering the car now had 400 miles on it, and I could just head over to one of the other half dozen Chevy dealerships in Dallas and get another black manual ZL1 (which I happen to know is the most common build and therefore easiest to find).

He "pulled some strings" to make it happen, although I would not be surprised if he was bluffing for the extra cash in the first place. I understand I'm young and have lots of student loans, but I also have a high income and will have no trouble making payments. The bank we ended up going with is much larger and well-known whereas the first one he tried to get me to go through I had never heard of. Probably had some kind of sweetheart deal with the first one.

All's well that ends well though, and I've got me a new username: BlackZLWon.

Cheers!

If you have excellent credit you should of been able to haggle them down to 0 down. I just got a new 2ss with 0 down after a. Walking out of the first dealership and telling the second that if i dont get a 0 down they have no sale. Dealerships nowadays are so desperate for sales that them asking for a down payment is balony.

A month later no payment book arrived in the mail, dealer calls and says you need to sign new papers at 21%, payment would go up. He said no I agreed to 18% and I can't afford any more payment. He never heard from them for 2 months, they call again and tell him he has to sign new papers, tells them no again. This goes on every couple months for a year. He contacts a lawyer, who contacts the dealer, who finally says just bring the car back. He turns in in with 36000 miles on it, never made a payment and they gave him his $1000 deposit back. Needless to say he was happy.
ANYONE who signs for a car loan with an 18%+ interest rate is not in their right mind.

Tell your buddy I can finance his next car for 7% on my credit card. 3.9% and his payment to the card and 3.1% into my pocket.

To the OP.... NEVER let the dealer look for financing!!!

They shop around for the lowest rate and then "tack on" a couple of points to pad their own pocketbooks, i.e... bank A offers a loan for 6%, dealership tells you 9%. They just made an extra 3% profit on your car.

This story kinda made me chuckle a little bit as the dealership I dealt with sold my charger after 3 days to someone else even after I signed for it. When I went to pick it up and they told me they forget to put a sold sign on it, I told them I want the camaro. As far as financing goes, dealership didnt give me any problems however the service dept is out there to make my life miserable as they lie constantly.

Brandon, I hope you are reading this and its just a simple fact that the "GM certified dealerships" that you guys have are bunch of liers. After having you contact my agent and after speaking to her about what the dealership has put down in the notes is unacceptable. I so wish I was in the midwest so I could drop my car off to you for one day and have you drive it to see how much I am being lied to. Its simply not professional; neither customers want to deal with dealerships like this nor they would walk in the second time to buy another vehicle from them.

What's more amazing is that people say they can buy a 50K car with a credit card or they'll do it with zero down (and wait for it...the old "I can take that money and invest it in XXX and make more money...")

It's 99% hot air most of the time. It makes more financial sense to ALWAYS borrow the least amount of money you can. Because if you do that, you'll always have enough money to do what you want AND invest in those lucrative $$ endeavors that the posters always brag about. In reality, people rarely actually take the money they would put down on the vehicle and tie it up into another investment. If that was the case, you should have been doing that years ago, and with all that money you made on interest, you can pay CASH later on for a new car and not have to pay ANY interest. So save the borrow this and invest that BS. Because there's a 99% chance you ain't doing it.

There may be times where some financial ball and cup tricks work out, but if you're paying ANY interest on any money borrowed, it's costing you.

But glad it all worked out for the OP.

I did, the trick is to get pre-approved with your own finance company before you go in to make a deal.

I went through Navy Federal at 1.9% btw, before taking your car back I'd see about financing on your own so you can keep the car and the dealership be happy too. Trust me they still want you to have the car but the situation is exactly like everyone else has already said.

Everything about what you just said is true, trust me I ran the numbers in my situation. However should I have done as you said I still wouldn't have my dream car, the one I had been wanting since 2006. If I didn't buy this car I could have paid my house off in 5-6 years by taking the money I'm paying on this car now and applying it to the house payment. However I'd be an unhappy non-perma grinning person for that much longer, a price I am willing to pay to have.

Scold me if you want for that but I've only ever bought one brand new car, this is it, and I am happy...
