Is it OK to use full synthetic on V6 (LFX)?

Hi, called the dealer to get my first oil change and asked for Mobil 1 full synthetic. He said if I have a v6, all I need is synthetic blend.

Will full synthetic (Mobil 1) help or hurt the LFX engine? Should I insist that is what I want?

Thanks guys.

Check your manual and if it states to use Dexos1 oil Mobil-1 is Dexos 1 approved.

I would use full synthetic. That is all I use on all my cars.

I went to full synthetic, Mobil 1. The reason is I change my own oil and when I was in Walmart I was looking for the synthetic blend and it costs about the same so I figured I could just as well go full synthetic for that price. It was like $5 and change a quart for the blend(had to buy it by the quart, no bulk jugs for sale) or $26 and change for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1. Look at it this way, GM puts Mobil 1 in the Corvettes straight from the factory, actually so does Ferrari and a few other, why not in my Camaro.

Dean.

Always go with a better oil. These motors NEED a top grade full syn (read the engine failures, etc) and the dexos syn blend is lower cost to just fit into the target market that wants to run 87 octaine, run cheaper oil, etc. The motor is 11.3:1 CR and will run better and gibe better fuel economy with 91-93 vs 87, and the motor will last longer and be more trouble free with a top grade full syn.

I dont think you will find anyone that has built and been into more of the 3.6 GM V6 engines than we have.....we see it all up close and personal. Not much in the owners manual as far as break-in, fuel, or oil is accurate in you the car owners best interest. It is written by marketing tailored to the target demograpics.

I concur with tracy on this matter. Mobil one from day one 97 octane from the start. No problems with my car. Put a catch can on it also, and your car will thank you.
