Parts availability is not very good it seems at GM?

For those of you that have followed my previous post regarding the rear end leak I was told today by the dealer that they could not locate an axle seals for my ZL1 locally here in So Cal and had to order it from Michigan! What kind of BS is this? How do you not stock axle bearings for a Camaro ZL1? IIRC isn't it the same as the one that goes into the SS?

If the bearings are the same as the stock SS, then I'd think the part numbers would be the same. It really isn't completely GMs fault. They source wheels, rear ends, exhaust systems, and other parts from various vendors and don't always have an inventory of extra parts, especially if there's been a lot of failures. I'd just be thankful that the part is available from another dealership.

The differential is totally different than the SS so the seals probably are too!

probably the biggest cause of GM parts availability was after the bankruptcy GM got rid of alot of inventory and does not stock the volume that they did before.
having a 16 yr old GM product the past decade, I saw probably 75% of parts go obsolete the past 6 years.

but on seals and bearings, if you have a part number you can contact local bearing supply vendors or powertrain shops and see if they have the bearings or seals.
I switched my imp to 373s and an eaton posi 6 years ago and did not get a single part from the dealer except the LS additive and the abs reluctor (one of the last ones in stock lol).

The axles are different as well, so I'm not surprised that the seals might not be the same.

The ZL1 has one smaller solid axle, and one larger but hollow axle IIRC.

Car returned today repaired! The tech left the rear connection loose in the trunk no rear turn signals or brake lights. They called me as I left the parking lot they looked and noticed no rear brake lamps came on! I now will go over the car with a complete vehicle check out before leaving.

GM dealers stock very little these day. Especially model specific parts like the ZL1 differential bits. My dealer doesn't even stock the bolts for the brake calipers.
