My local delearship outsourced it to a Trim shop. First time the guy broke the channel.guides by forcing the rail in place, rather than sliding it in from the side. That left me with a "typhoon" sound from the rear seals as I drove with wind rushing in the car. Next time I brought it back to fix that, they ordered another new top. After it was installed; still noisy; but better. Driving down the highway the sides behind the rear windows blow open like a sail on each side. After arguing w that dealer; who claimed it was all.within GM specifications (not to mention them ripping my back.seat) I brought it to Starling. They installed another new top and fixed all the noise and loose fittings. However, couple months later and I had the damn marks again; and the rear flooded during a heavy rain.back to Starling. They originally said they'd get a whole new top of the factory line for the 13's but in the mean time, gm came out with its newer top design and retrofit parts to modify the existing cars so were going to do that instead. Once they got the topoff and frame disasssembled; they realized that the original trim shop had screwed the fabric into the rails with about 100 tiny screws.... thus rendering that frame damaged and unuseable. At that time they were finally able to get an entirely new frame, water drainage system and canvas. All from a 2013 model.

Now the car is perfect; all because of Starling Chevy!

Another twist in this. I called the other Chevy dealer and I was told it would be too much risk for them to install the new top Roger Dean just ordered. Apparently once they are done they have to submit a claim or something of the sort to GM to get reimbursed for the work. Since they didn't sell me the car or make the initial mistake (Roger Dean) they don't want to work on my top. They were nice but said since Roger Dean made the mistake they may actually be paying for the work behind the scenes and not getting reimbursed by GM. Now it basically sounds like I have to get my top fixed by them since it has been documented they made a mistake when installing the recall fix, whatever that was. It's basically like now I have to get it done because I am aware Roger Dean messed up. Here we gooooooooo!

If its under factory warranty, a gm service dept can't refuse to honor it... However, I wouldn't suggest forcing them... Who knows how the work would turn out. I went thru similar experiences, I have a dealer within 10 min of my house, but the first time I brought the car to them and they asked if I'd bought it there, I knew that was the start of drama and left. Starling ended up chrging back the dealership that had the first 2 tops installed as well... Du.nno how that ended up, but it was recommended to me I find another local dealership to use, lol! Luckily no problems in the 6 months since the new top. Gotta get the tonneau replaced with the new style as its still coming loose occasionally and the fabrics separating.

Alright I will call them and see what the deal is. From my understanding GM could actually not honor it because the dealership messed it up the first time, so that is why another dealer is hesitant to take the risk because GM could say they have to pay for it themselves. I asked the guy at Roger Dean and he said it was a common problem and they have had quite a few fixed, so that does give me some comfort.

UF4LIFE Where or you? Yeah the harness is the last part for the 4l80e swap. I should get good 10's on the 1/4 with the 18" M/T & the new trans that a lot of help geting off the line will cut wheel spin down.

Anything furher on the departure time for the rally? We can make it for a 9-10 am leave time.
Remember, for those attending the cruise, line up is set for 3:30. Getting there a little early will give us time for a liitle cleanup and checking in!
