Camaro Quality

Hello everyone,

I purchased a new, left-over 2011, 2SS/RS Camaro convertible on 11/1/12. In less then 2 months time, the car has spent 5 1/2 days back at the dealer. On the first visit (2 1/2 days), the dealer repainted the hood, replaced passenger side rear quarter window motor, repainted rear bumper fascia due to trunk lid hitting the fascia (result of misalignment from factory), secured lower driver's side rear bumper fascia, as it was not secured in the wheel well, and installed a missing fastener on the rear underside of the car.

The second visit required 3 days, and was as a result of the binding of the rear axle, to which I was told, required replacement of rear axle seals and fluid (which had to be ordered). The service director told me that I would continue to experience additional binding of the rear axle for up to 500 more miles. Ironically, there was no mention of replacing this new fluid after the additional 500 miles, which is obviously now being contaminated with more metal particles as a result of this internal binding.

Next week, I am taking the car back for additional paint work, as I have discovered yet another flaw on the top of the driver's side rear quarter panel. My car has approximately 1700 miles on it, and my question to any of you, is this the typical quality that I can expect from GM?

Thank you,
Mike

Can you post some pictures? You say flaw, and I want to know what that means.

Brandon,
Hello, thank you for the reply. What is the advantage of documenting the issues that I described, in your database?

Thank you,
Mike

Hello, I am currently on the road, so I cannot provide any pictures at this time. When I say flaw, this is similar to the problem I had with the hood of this car. On the hood, there were mulitple, circular spots all over the hood where the clearcoat was cracked and lifting.

Thank you,
Mike

Clear coat is lifting? Not just your standard swirl marks?

Could this specific vehicle been parked where some birds (or something else) got on the paint for too long - and the dealer attempted to fix?

If you haven't already - go over to the convertible section and read up on the issues w/ the tops.

Hope it all gets resolved for you soon.

Hello, yes, it was definitely clear coat lifting. I am sure that it was due to lack of attention by the dealer. The car was on the lot for a year.

I appreciate the heads-up on the top, I will take a look at the tops section and review.

Thanks for the good words,
Mike

These are compiled by many departments of GM and can be accessed by many departments of GM for feedback.

Brandon,
Hello, I read many of the posts regarding the convertible top problems last evening, and since I just purchased this left-over 2011 convertible, should I be concerned about the 5th bow breaking, water bag issues, or rub marks? This car sat on the dealer lot for over a year, and based on the fact that I had to have the hood repainted after purchase, I assume this dealer did nothing to the car while sitting on their lot. As you saw from my first 2 months of ownership, the quality of this vehicle is questionable, and I want to make sure that I did not end up with a big problem. I will be happy to send the Vin number if you like.
Thank you,
Mike

Your experience is atypical from what I know. Does this dealer have it's own body shop? Is there any chance it has been hit in the rear and repaired onsite, leaving no paper trail? Do you have a trusted body shop or body man that could look for evidence of a repair for you? GM even does some repairs at the factory...

If it has been repaired and not to your satisfaction I wouldn't be afraid to seek a price adjustment or replacement for the non-disclosure.

Best of luck!

Chef-Beavis,

Hello, I guess anything is possible, this dealer does have a body shop on site. As a matter of fact, they are the ones who repainted the hood. I do not know any body shop people, however, I can certainly find one to have it looked at.

Thank you,
Mike Prieskorn

If I was close I'd look for you. Look for tape lines in trunk and door jambs and stuff. Seam sealer that doesn't appear the same from side to side is another dead giveaway ...

Good luck. I hope I'm wrong!

We address every vehicle concern on a case by case basis and the best thing to do would be to send me your VIN so I can look further into your concern. Please send it to me via PM.
