My Soap Opera continues.
After my Friday appointment that failed miserably, they told me to take my Camaro home and they would call on Monday when they had a loaner car available. When a loaner becomes available, they had a few bulletins for it, one requiring it to sit for 24 hours. I am like OK, that's fine I'll come back Monday. So Monday rolls around, no phone call, Tuesday, no phone call. I call and email later in the week, still no loaner. Yesterday, the NEXT Monday afternoon, the car wont go into reverse again. Right after, I got a call saying that a loaner was available and that they close at 6. I have class until 6:15. So I called back saying I would be there this morning. I got there at 8:30 with license and insurance for my loaner, of course my insurance card was expired and I am an out-of-state student so it needed faxed in. He says to take him for a ride while we wait and see if it does the jumping when it shifts / reverse issue. Of course it doesnt do it because it does it at complete random. During the ride, he lets it slip that the transmission guy had surgery the day before and isnt there. We get back, I go back into the waiting room to finish waiting for my insurance to come through to get the loaner. He comes out and tells me that due to not being able to replicate the issue, they arent going to work on it (Even though the week before he said there was a bulletin and they would). So here I am, two weeks later, having my car not go into reverse twice now, and I was told to keep driving it until it gets so bad that they will be able to see it themselves. UGH! " My thoughts: So why did I have to come in this morning when I have an exam to get a loaner because you couldnt replicate it last time either?!? I am confused?" I am now back to square one and figure that I will try another dealership. It really baffles my mind that I am having an issue that corresponds with a bulletin they admitted to, yet they wont look at the car because they cant replicate my random problem. Ill give update if I ever do get an answer :( I am hoping that another dealership works out. So Frustrating! |

I know the feeling. Good luck. Be careful where you park and make sure you have a forward path to exit.
How'd you do on your exam? Well...I hope. ![]() Remember, prioritize, when it comes to your Camaro. Put it at the bottom of your list. Your classes are #1. . . |

2012 Camaro Auto Trans
I have a 2012 Camaro 2LT RS, auto trans with 9000 miles. It started a wobble or vibration when accelerating between 30 and 55 mph. Going to Dealer, first time, on wed.

You know the funny thing is my 2011 has had this weird shutter from day one from 2nd into 3rd gear its more pronounced tho when its cold but when it gets hot it seems smoother, Mines the V8 Automatic but I thought it had to do with the active fuel managment and mines Tuned from SLP so I dont know whats normal and whats not it seems the same 2 years later from the time it was new so nothing as if yet has worsened so I dont know, to be honest theres a few small things I tend to live with because making a fuss over them could make them worse so I tend to live with a few small things I noticed about the car call me crazy lol.

Not sure it this relates but will pass it on. My 2011 V6 with automatic had a shift lag (slight) between 2nd & 3 gears under mild excelleration. A post on this site got me thinking and took it to dealership. First, they just ran a scan and appeared to be within specs but I presisted. Dealership transmission pro then test drove mine (we me) back to back with a new on the lot 2011. Noticed the rpm change and gear lag between shifts between my A6 with only a few thousand miles and a new off the lot same year A6. Issue had not been reported at that early date to GM & they opened a case file. Result they changed the TCM (transmission control module). That helped for awhile but this was back in 2011.
Watching this tread to see if there has been any further updates. After a little more than 2-1/2 years ownership (ordered/bought new) and 5,065 miles have noticed the gear lag returning only when I accelerate entering a freeway. Note: I mosting only drive low speed stop-n-go traffic and seldom get above 45 mph between stop lights for months. But today, had it washed (winter crap here in Ottawa), took an alternate drive home on the expressway (vs typical stop and go streets), noticed the lag between automatic gear shifts between 2nd & 3 gears. No transmission noise, only a gear shift lag between 2 & 3. Do not know if this is typical for a Gen 5 Camaro automatic. Been buying new cars since 1970, mostly automatics & never noticed this low gear hesitation shift on any previous autos. Reason I am curious if this is typical of the Gen 5 Camaro A6 is because before Aug. will be going to the dealership to have my 2011 2LT A6 fully inspected before the 3 year bumper to bumper warrenty expires (to address one weather seal gasket and one slight interior rattle). Do not know if any issues on the auto transmission should be addressed during this visit. All can say is it seems strange, from day one to present (even after TCM was replaced & my 2011 2LT A6 has mostly only low speed 5,065 miles), I have a slight but noticeable gear shift hesitation between 2 & 3 and shifts between 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, are smooth as silk. |

Here's one for you. Got my converter replaced a while ago, things were fine. Now car does not downshift in manual mode when i stop. It stays in the last gear selected. Looks like tranny replacement time.

When I drive my Automatic i get a noise from my car around 45 to 55 mph. the dealer said its the torque converter. GM called me on it and said there is no fix for this and that its a common noise. when I bought the car the noise wasnt there when did it become common noise?

Got mine in January, thought it was bad gas for a while. But after 5 tanks of super unleaded, not so. It happens usually on an incline between35-50 mph. Taking her in Monday after finding this forum. Whew, s glad it is not just me!

Mine. torque converter 4500 miles, gas sloshing around in the tank. interior fan noise,
dash bubbling and will not guarantee replacement fit and that it will not happen again, cylenoid gap supposedly. The trans is going. I meet the rep tomorrow night. I can't wait for the next lie . |

Had shuttering between 20-55 mph when it was looking to shift gears around 1100-1400 rpm.
Could reproduce everytime I got the rpm's down and went on the throttle slightly forcing it to think about shifting and then would shutter and only shift if I added more gas. Torque converter was replaced and shifting pattern was reprogrammed (I was told they changed it for this problem and there is a TSB). I found the TSB issued here on Camaro5 and brought it in just incase they tried to give me a hard time - the technician agreed the TSB was applicable quickly. 2012 Camaro RS and had ~7800 miles on it. Haven't had a problem since and that was around 1.5 - 2 months ago. |

I am having a third Torque converter put in the car tomorrow. There was a bulletin for the dash board issue and for the gas tank issue. No bulletin for the heater fan.

I am still wondering if these torque converter issues are with all 2012 V6 Camaros or only on ones built after a certain date. I have almost 14,000 miles on mine now in 13 months and I run mine fairly hard, so far I haven't had any problem. Mine was built in late 2011.

Posted a few times before on this thread. Mine is a 2011 2LT A6. Low gear shift lag (no noise issue). Built 1st week of Aug. 2010 & received 2nd week of Aug. 2010. TCM (transmission control monitor) replaced 1st year. Lag has become a little more noticeable this last year. Now at only 5,400 miles, 3-year bumper to bumper expires early this Aug., have a service appointment Thursday to check out a few other things (clunk/pop) in front.
So this time in will have them recheck the TCM plus the torque converter & get it on record still having an issue with low gear shift lag on the A6 (v6). I have an excellent dealership, but like many dealerships sometimes it takes a few visits as I do not accept "Normal" or "Nothing found". Been driving for 45 years (and buying new autos) & all but one of my autos were auto trans. Never had an auto that shifts this poorly in low gears. Good I have another auto so I can leave the Camaro at dealership for weeks if required. Other car is a 1998 supercharged Riviera (67,000 miles) and its auto trans shifts smooth as butter, moves out fast and no gear shift lag. I have to question why a 15 year old Buick Riviera automatic transmission with 67,000 miles shifts 'much' smoother than a 3 year old Camaro with automatic transmission at only 5,400 miles? 1998 Riviera is a larger 2 door coupe, less gears, but 87 pounds lighter than the 2011 2LT Camaro. 1998 Riv is only 240 hp but supercharged so it flys while the 2011 is 312 hp & flys but low gear lag is noticeable. |
