Master Cylinder Leak

Has anyone with a 2013 ZL1 had a leaking Brake Master Cylinder? I noticed a fair amount of fluid today on my reservoir. I know there were older posts for this, but wanted to know if others have had this on their new ZL1s and had a dealer successfully repair. I only have about 300 miles on my car.

Sorry no pics as I saw this while at work and didn't want to drive home with fluid on top.

I'd rather fix myself than have the dealer work on my car if it is just a cap replacement.

same here

I have had the same issue since day one. Actually I have had this happen on all the corvettes I have had from 1992 and up. Crappy GM design.

They all leak...both SS's I had leaked...its a faulty design. I think theres a thread somewhere around here where a member used a bottle cap ring and fixed the leak?

It sounds like you may be under warranty still so I would suggest going to the dealership for a diagnosis and repair.

I saw the older posts, but they were a year old. I was hoping that someone had an effective warranty repair on a 2013, so I could know the new P/N.

As far as I know, even the new GM cap still leaks...Hopefully someone else can chime in and prove me wrong

My 2013 leaks - I did the separate Clutch Reservoir and put extra plastic gaskets in the Break Reservoir's cap.

I noticed some slight weeping of brake fluid on the master cylinder reservoir on my 2013 Convertible, supposedly due to the reservoir cap not making a good seal with the reservoir. I did notice that when the reservoir cap was rotated all the way to the closed detent position there was some play between the cap and the reservoir. I obtained a new reservoir cap under warranty and the new cap fits tightly now when rotated all the way to the closed detent position and I haven't noticed any further brake fluid on the master cylinder reservoir.

There is a TSB (09-05-22-005A) on the reservoir cap but many Camaro owners have indicated that replacing the cap has not resolved the issue while others, as I, have found that a new cap solves the problem for them. It appears that a slight difference in cap seal thickness (probably within the specified tolerances) makes the difference between leaking and not leaking.

I had more then weeping. In my case it was wet enough that there were multiple fluid runs on the shock tower. I think that I'll try the mod with a plastic shim under the original reservoir cap to see if it is effective. That would certainly reduce the clearance. If that doesn't work I'll take to a dealer.

Here's the older version. I'm sure we'd all like to know if it's been updated and revised.

TECHNICAL
Bulletin No.: 09-05-22-005A
Date: March 05, 2010
Subject: Slight Brake Fluid Leak/Weeping Around Master Cylinder Reservoir Cap (Replace Cap)
Models:
2010 Chevrolet Camaro
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint A9197567
Supercede:
This bulletin is being revised to add a VIN breakpoint. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-05-22-005 (Section 05 - Brakes).
Condition
Some customers may comment on noticing that the brake master cylinder reservoir cap has a slight leak or is weeping brake fluid.
Cause
This condition may be caused by insufficient sealing of the reservoir cap.
Correction

Replace the master cylinder reservoir cap following the steps below:
1. Remove and discard the original reservoir cap.
Note
If in question on brake fluid or level, refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling, in SI.
2. Check the brake fluid level. If the brake fluid level is above the half-full point, adding brake fluid is not recommended under normal conditions.
3. Wipe clean the outside surface of the master cylinder and/or reservoir.
4. Install a new reservoir cap, GM P/N 20819283.

One solution would be. And this what i am gonna do is buy a replacement
cap and pull the gasket from one and double the other.
I have ordered carbon fiber fluid caps for all fluid resivors
and will use the OEM gasket to double the replacement cap
gasket which is also OEM.
