It could be an LT1 under there for all we know. Testing for gen 6 purposes or for end of gen 5 switchout. But I do like to think its an LS7

Okay, but that doesn't change the fact that caring about nothing but sound is extremely silly.

Granted, but people in general are silly. They made a movie "The Dilema" in 2011 that this very concept was the underlying plot. It's gotta be a V8 for me though.

It would seem to me that the smarter bet would be to use Chevy's wonderful 3.91 gear set and more aggressive power tuning to bring the ZL1 closer to the GT500.

It would be great if the LS7 Camaro development would be a part of a greater plan to strengthen the ZL1 and the other Camaro models across the board.
The LS7 is considered "old tech" now due to the introduction of the LT1 for the 2014 Corvette. The LT1 is the base Corvette engine and it almost produces the same power as the LS7. The Camaro has always been....and always will be....heavier and slower than the Corvette. I don't see a problem with adding a LS7 option to the 5th gen Camaro. Both the LS7 and 5th gen are approaching the end of their life cycle. This just makes the Camaro stay interesting as Ford introduces their new Mustang.
As for the Camaro and Mustang battle you mentioned, GM is actually responding well to the Mustang. Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and many auto news blogs have praised the performance of the 1LE over the Track Pack Mustang. The ZL1 has typically received better reviews than the GT500 too. Acceleration is not everything anymore.

They need to make a dual mode similar to the new c7 which eliminates the terrible drone associated with afm. Not having to tune out afm and void your warranty would be cool.

So if it's a 400 hp TT V6, you wouldn't go for it?

If there was only a TT V6, yes I would but if there was a V8, I'd go for it.

2014 Camaro Powered by LS7 Spotted?!

Could this be a prelude for the Z-28 maybe?

No way that's the prelude for a Z28 with the V6 front fascia. I'd like to think that FBodFather is correct and giving us the proper information about the car. Then again he wouldn't be able to tell us that there is an LS7 or TTV6 under the hood even if he knew there was. I hope the 2014 has an LS7 option but I'm not going to hold my breath. Hopefully it does get confirmed though!

I grew up on SBC's and I am now ending an era of "worked" V6's one was a 300hp/320ftlbs 4.3L and the other is a charged 3.8L with less mods and similar numbers. I'm over V6's it's time for a V8 again. If the Camaro wasn't available I would look somewhere else in the Chevy/GM line up.

I wouldn't get hung up on the 'old' bodywork. If they are indeed testing a new drivetrain of course they are going to use existing body panels if it is uncovered/uncamouflaged.

I take it, you've never owned or driven an older V8 muscle car?
Even though the current V6 Camaro has all the power we'll ever use for our daily driver, it does not have the sound or feel.

I grew up with the 60's muscle cars and owned a '69 SS Camaro.
So, when it came time to buy the new Camaro, the SS was the only option I was interested in.

......who said anything about a V6 performance exhaust system?

(...altho we continue to work on stuff like that...)

Something to think about:

We must pass strict 'drive-by' noise standards........it's a federal law and several communities (Cook County Illinois comes to mind) are somewhat more stringent. Therefore, no ones' stock exhaust systems sound as 'robust' as they'd like.

You ask us for 'loud' exhaust systems. We can't provide them on a new vehicle. However, there are many exhaust systems out there that are for 'off-road' use. (meaning that you must be careful of where you drive....)

Forget what the mule looks like. We don't go out an put a new camaro (or Corvette or Silverado or whatever) into service every time we develop something...rather, we reuse mules. So forget the front clip. That car is very likely a car built in 2008 or 2009.......

that particular car may very well have sounded like a V8 because we are constantly working on performance parts for YOUR Camaros as you ask for more stuff.

OR - it was a V6 perhaps and they didn't really hear it.

With the dual exhuast, I also think that the LS7 will be optional on the 1LE.
