hmm

is tuning the LLT really that hard? I know it is, but it seems like everytime we dyno anything on this stupid motor, we have to figure out why we keep getting low numbers

IPF tune doesn't appear to have low numbers/knock issues, which is why I alluded to a tuning issue.

It depends on the situation of course Baylor like with anything. But conditions the same the dyno should not produce more knock. In my experience I have seen more false knock situations on the track rather than the dyno. Thus why I go to the track OR go on the street with every vehicle after completing the dyno tune to make sure that there is no variation.

We do know as per your personal car, the car just did not want to go past 6k on the dyno but I've dyno'd probably 10 or so other V6's without a problem. We also know from logging that in first-second gear your timing is higher than third gear down the track. I cannot log the actual KR, but I can log timing advance. From looking at the timing in first-second, comparison to third it does seem that there is timing being pulled possibly from a resonance from modifications?

I do know that I had a tune completed for a 2012 LFX making 341rwhp thru auto, but was missing the proper torque tables to have the car brake stall properly, so I had to send my tables outside and have a tune performed via email with my parameters, and that the knock sensor tables from my tune could not have been used because I had 0 knock, next time down the track with the other tune in there it was pulling 10+ degrees and going to -7.5 on the shifts.

Certainly hope that isn't the case. As others here have said, I've always understood the false knock reading to be worse on the dyno than on the street.

Lol - good thing my day job has been keeping me very busy since late October.

Wife and I had a little quality time with her and yes I actually let her drive: proved to the wife I did not sell the car and we were able to play a little around town.

It's not over 'till it's over.

This might be completely stupid to say but with the dyno kr problems why isnt everyone just tuning on the street or track? Dial the tune in and make handful of 1/4 mile pass's to show numbers.

Track numbers and seat of the pants performance mean more to me than some dyno sheet. Especialy since the guys is waiting so patiantly amd some mods dyno like crap. Tune it and make some pass's on the 1/4. Dont build a dyno queen here we dont drive on dynos everyday.

Hell my new motor in the bagger made an extra 10hp and 28ftlbs of torque more than the last build but only ran 2 tenths faster in the quarter but wheelies like crazy now on the street. Falls apart on the top end of the rpm range. Looking at the dyno numbers said shave .5 off the quarter boy was I wrong. New cam and more tuning this winter for the 1/4 mile time I want even though I have the dyno numbers I wanted from last year it just couldnt put them to the ground.

Please dont take my 2 cents the wrong way.

Macrackie - no worries. Only reason we are looking so hard at numbers is it a measurement of gain or loss. You mentioned you new bagger motor gained 10 / 28 if you're happy with the that's what matters. We did my current bagger (05 cvo Electra glide) and it laid down 124 / 126 on the dyno- definite gains of almost 100%. Standing up 1100lbs in second is pretty impressive.

Back to topic - we know we had a solid 30rwhp with the cams only. What were trying to validate is the head gains. Making sure everything is in order is critical to declaring success or a making a change. Butt dyno cam sometimes be misleading - if torque on the bottom end is improved but mid range or top end suffers - if our building a cruiser then the changes were correct.

Just my thoughts on why the delta of the numbers are important to us.

Still waiting on numbers I believe, any new videos on the car? Supposed to hit the track soon right? Would love to see 0-60s as well but 1/4 times will provide best answers for gains and what not
