I will let Ivan chime in here, but I think what some people are misunderstanding is, some engines from the factory are sitting slightly off to begin with. There is no bind that you are putting the motor in. It's actually putting in position where it should have been to begin with. he's not saying to go out and put the engine off center just to squeeze a header in. We're talking 1/16 of an inch...

Keep in mind, this is the exception to have cars coming from the factory this way, not the norm. But it's enough to cause some fitment issues.

Just glad to get a solution out there!

The practice of loosening the engine mounts and re-centering them is referred to as "neutralizing" the mounts. It's a common practice used to counter noise/vibration/harshness issues for new cars under warranty. On automatics, it's easy: loosen mounts, start engine, reverse-drive-reverse-drive-park, re-torque mounts. On manuals you can do a partial clutch release in the same manner, or a floor jack and a block of wood can be used to slightly lift and re-center the engine. no big deal.

Thanks strych9. Sounds about as simple as it gets. Good to know.

If Camarojt and Ivan have a valid point, and the engine is just positioned slightly different from car to car, then moving the engine is the proper solution. No need to mutilate the header. That's why I'm curious how they would do it.
Well smartass you missed my point completely...Reading comprehension isn't your strong point is it?

What makes you think your opinion is better than mine?

I'll be here everytime some jerk tries to badmouth obx headers....

When an engine is set down on its mounts the engine will find its center.
moving it left or right by force will put it in a bind...simple. Just a band-aide fix for a set of way overpriced headers.

Just because its not posted here doesn't mean it's not happening. Everything doesn't happen on Camaro5!
Kooks may be overpriced to YOU! And it's not BS! Just because YOU think it is, Maryland Speed didn't make me believe shit because I already knew OBX has had a bad rep since they started to make them for the Ls1's years ago.
It's not for bragging rights but "I DO" feel better buying A product that was made here in the United States.

Your late to the party pal!

And STOP saying the motor is going to be in a bind! Your not too bright if you think that!

OBX has copied over 25 JBA header designs so you are saying JBA must be the BEST set of headers on the market today? OBX copies the first company that comes to market so they can get products in the end users hands before all the other brands release their designs.

I said some of the best. I would say JBA is up there in original (hopefully) designs. I just realized I shouldn't have bought JBA yesterday. Give me a day or two to come to grips with my failure .

::EDIT::

Although to be fair.. I didn't know they had copied JBA too.

AWw ...he blew smoke up your ass and you fell for it...it hurts knowing you got ripped off...does it not? There is a fool born every minute.

I have been a mechanic for over 40 years....If you loosen a motor...force it with pressure from one side to another then hold it in place and tighten it down...it puts the damn thing in a bind...you're stupid if you can't see it. Now go sit down somewhere and shut up for a minute..i'm tired of listening to your BS.

Kind of a different twist on age discrimination. I'd make fun of you for being old, but I actually respect my elders. And I'm by no means young either... just less crotchety than yourself. I also have a much better grasp on my emotional outbursts.

So.... You get herp derped again!

Funny...I try and stay out of the thread...and we keep getting drug in

I have seen some cars like the 2004-2006 GTO that had major engine aligment issues front the factory. That was because they were made in a side shop by hand at Holden. Camaro's on the other hand are made on a normal assembly line with robots and lasers.

I will tell you, I have sold a lot of Camaro headers, and watch all the posts here. I have had maybe two or three different instances where a customer had issues with the header hitting the steering shaft. While you see people posting "loosen the motor mounts"...I have yet to see someone post that it actually worked on a Camaro. I know we have suggested it, and in the end the fix ends up being a new header...or if it's a cheap header, take the hammer to it.

While rare for the brands I sell, parts are still made by humans, and mistakes happen...that's why there is a warranty. Rolls Royces break down from time to time..does not mean they are not still much nicer than say a Chevy Malibu.
