Steering column

Can someone please tell me that if your camaro is in a wreck, would it have any affect on the steering column or ingintion needing replaced. My car is in the shop for warranty work for the heater core, and the car fax does not show the car ever being in an accident or the air bag being deployed, can this be a ploy for the mechanic screwing up something or hide it, at the least I can have my paint and body go and check it out to see if it was, I did get this pre-owned from a car rental out of Texas that the dealership had on the lot, and can this be something they forgot to mention?
