From my personal experiance spinning out of the hole doesnt effect trap speed by little it any. It will certainly slow down et.

As a side note I have never seen a 15 second 200 mph pass local track or espn.

Maybe you could post a video of this

Going back through my timeslips, i'm finding the same thing... very little variation in my trap speed...

I've never drag raced before but aren't those times/speeds pretty close to a stock camaro? I'm a tad confused...was there an actual 50rhp loss from installing the heads?

When I was bone stock my trap speeds were around 94 mph. But DA was typically around a thousand plus and I think Tracy said their DA was negative.

Just to help with ET and trap speed. Here is a clip of my drag racing career spreadsheet. This is my best 3 to 5 passes average for the day.

I have been down the track over 130 times on 11 different dates.

Also listed are my changes as they happened.

Thanks for posting the slips. So what do you think it is? Is it still pulling timing or do you think something else is going on? It does look like you missed a shift on the 5:49 PM run because the 1000' to 1320' is a lot worse than in the other run. However, I too would expect the trap to be higher than 100 MPH even on a bad run. I'm just wonder if it isn't something besides timing. It would be nice to see how much overlap you have in the VVT above 3000 RPMs.

We're all rooting for you! Would we be able to just buy the cams though? I mean, that is a definite power adder correct? Do you expect it to still give close to 30 rwhp to a modded car, i.e. headers, spacers, ported im, cai, etc?

We're all aware that with those bolt ons we see diminishing returns, otherwise we'd all be eating stock V8's for breakfast. but because this is a mod that changes the way the engine behaves it shouldn't be as effected by air flow related mods right?

Sorry, lots of questions.

I have to agree, still should be a bit higher MPH even with the missed shift, etc. I doesen't lay over up top though and I can usually feel when an engine passes it's power curve peak....was shifting at 7K and this still pulls higher, just dont want to push it much above (customers car) so I do suspect somehwere, maybe in the lower RPM range were still getting KR. Cams alone, it did not have as big of issue, but engine noise of all types can be interpeted as knock.

VVT could be it as well. Good point D.

Vince is off Sun & Mon, so Tue is when I can get another tweak. Thought we had it as it feels so dang strong on the street, but thats not an accurate judge by any means.

So, short of disabling the knock sensors going to try one more thing and get this baby back to TX.

Yeah, doesn't help with Vince out and you being pressed for time. I think the reason everyone is pressing on this is that we ALL want this one to succeed. This could be a really badA$$ NA V6.

So, what I was thinking in terms of the 3000+ RPM is that once you are out of 1st gear you should be landing above that point in the RPM range. So low end power may be killing the 60' and even out to 100', but after that you should be in the power band the whole time. That was why I was suspecting too much overlap at the higher RPMs. Might want to PM Rhino79...as the L99 and our VVT are pretty similar. He's played around with his tune for custom cams quite a bit.

Another thing, did the valve seats get the 5* angle like I had on my LLT heads?

Yeah, lots of questions trying to sort out the last few items. Working thru them a step at a time will be a task but if i can spend time with the car and get more info I think we get to the bottom of this.

I know you've been down this road...

Didn't mean to criticize anything. I know nothing of drag racing. I was honestly more curious about the power drop on the dyno from installing the cams to the heads. Just important to me because I intend to buy the ported heads when I get my tax return. (end of march?? ). And if its the lower end thats killing it then I'll probably get the high stall converter too. Btw if anyone can recommend a good dyno place round maryland I'll get before and after numbers too. Really is an amazing project here.

Yeah... i know that feeling! My ST was my first manual at the track... I had two goals my first time to the track with it

1) Not stall at the line
2) Not be the slowest car there

and for extra credit:

3) Not miss a shift

I am happy to report I accomplished all 3!!

Good luck!!!!
