Even a cheapest Honda Civic has one standard, plus ipod interface, and bluetooth. How come a Camaro, 8 grand more, still doesn't have what the rest of the world has as standard equipment? Same backwards thinking it would seem. Went home without the new car.
First, to my knowledge, all of that is available on the Camaro as either standard or optional depending on the trim level.

Second, I highly doubt a base trim, no option Honda Civic has a backup camera.

Third, I had the same problem as you at a Dodge dealership in 2011. The Caliber had stability control, but the Viper didn't. I figured that meant the Viper should cost $1K less than the Caliber, but Dodge and the dealer wouldn't accept the logic, either.

since you didn't mention which model you were looking at, hard to determine..

but insofar as to why, at least with the Camaro.. GM built this car to be simplistic, it was designed for gear heads and power, not for tech-heads and gadgets, I believe that has been stated by GM several times.

While I agree overall that in 2013 this doesn't make much sense, I have to say after owning my 2012 for 6 months now, that I am kinda of glad it doesn't have all the techno crap my 300c and Avalanche had. I enjoy the car for what it is, and am not frustrated with gadgets that never want to work right

My 300c, Avalanche and the wife's Camry Hybrid, have all had their fair share of techno-gadget idiocy and failure.

The Camaro was build to be a simplistic powerful drivers car, as such the gadgets are not needed.
LS...I guess my point was that even a $16K Civic comes with more basic electronics than a $26K LS. To get what the Civic has, it would be well over 30K in a Camaro...according to my, admittedly stupid dealer

Wishful thinking at best.
If Honda can offer all that on a very good...cheap model........???

In the past, GM is notorious for doing one thing great...like the styling, and then blowing it on other stuff. I believe this is an example of the blowing it on what has become pretty much standard on a LOT of other cars. Just because it has power, shouldn't mean they cheap out on the rest. In any event, it cost them a sale...not that they care.

and again, your comparing a sport/pony car to a commuter/family car. these are two entirely different segments of the car industry and are built, designed, and engineered for two entirely different purposes.

GM has to do something to keep the price tag down, as does Honda. that's why you get an I4 in the civic along with front wheel drive.

you really can't figure this out?

If Honda can do it on a cheap Civic? It could be an option, if needed, on an LS, without having to upgrade for things you may not want...it SHOULD be standard, however. Face it, the Camaro can use a back up camera

All I have to say is: you're buying a sport car, not a cadillac. Get a luxury car if you want all those features. I understand wanting to be comfortable in your car but if that's the case a 400+ HP, hard handling, sport car isnt for you.

Why should it be standard? Not everyone wants to have and pay for back-up cameras, particularly buyers in the sports car segment. Buyers in that segment generally have less need for them, anyway.

This is a sports car who needs all that crap? If you need a back up camara maybe you should learn how to drive. People have been driving for 100 years without them.

Find yourself a new dealer, preferably one that knows something about what they are selling.
