Hand wash only unless it is the summer time and I've been on a trip and need to get the fresh bug guts off and it's dark - then a touchless run through.

Use the car wash all the time. I live on a dirt road so it really doesn't matter much.

Mine went through a car wash once..... Only once. It was in the prep area of the Car Dealer. From that point on it has been 2 bucket hand wash and only manual car washed with a wand sprayer when needed. Helps to keep some salt and grime off.
I do have to say that just by getting rid of the automatic car wash aspect really saves the paint from swirls. A friend of mine bought a black truck a couple of months after i bought the Camaro and she always asks. Wow how do you keep this looking like new. My response is simple. Avoid automatic car washes...

Touch free laser wash on occasion, followed by a good quick detailer like Mothers Showtime

A lot of times, automatic car washes don't even get the paint clean enough to be using detail spray.
Plain and simple, if you don't mind swirls, car washes are fine. If you like your car to look nice at distances closer than ten feet, avoid them. It's not hard, and I'm not judging. Everybody has different goals for their cars, and everybody is entitled to treat their car how they like. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Oh and touchless washes do not leave swirls... I'll put my car next to any hand wash one and I guarantee you won't see any swirls or blemishes on mine,,, hell you won't be able to tell which one was in the touchless and which one wasn't... Just saying!!! |

![]() But seriously, it's not possible to get all dirt off without agitation. Unless they're using some seriously caustic soaps that will do a lot of damage and way too much water pressure. Even then, I doubt it. You're right, touchless doesn't cause swirls directly- it can't. What I meant by that was that the dirt they leave behind (I know, you don't believe me) causes swirls when people then try to dry, wax, or otherwise rub on the still dirty car. There's a big difference between looking clean and being clean enough to touch. Like I said, everyone here paid for their cars and can do whatever they think is best for it. Just thought I'd try to help. This is what I do for a living, so my eye catches more than most, maybe.

All the time, after a long drive I take it to the Touch-less car wash and it sprays it down and puts a nice wax coat on so my baby can sit in the garage nice and clean after.

Hold on your touchless applies wax to your car? Are you sure? That's something I've never heard of before.
